I have had George, the dog in my current Avatar, for about three years. Today, totally unexpectedly, I now also have a female beagle named Gracie (she came with the name).

Too young I was indeed. I actually missed the first run of the original Star Trek show by ten years and am currently watching it for the first time (I have watched many episodes before, but never the complete show).

 

EDIT: Btw, my George was named for George Carlin.

I'm more of a cat man myself well not entirely true since it's actually Siamese cats I really like and they are like monkeys. Smart, loud and loyal. Congrats with you new dog man.

However, since she wants to be right next me, as much as possible (she was alone for almost a week before I got her, due to her owner, my neighbor, being hospitalized) I don't think I will be sleeping too well tonight. :helpsmilie:

 

Both asleep, just a few feet away, each in their own spot, at the moment (though she is in one of George's beds).

 

Guess I will need a new avatar. :)

Hey dude!!! Wow, gorgeous looking dogs!

In the early years of my life I've always been terrified of any animal. Dog, chicken, a mouse, it didn't matter. Because at a very young age (5?) I was jumped by a dog.

Since a couple of years my sister has a dog, who's lovely and helped me overcome a very large part of my anxiety.

 

So now, when I get a place of my own, I'll most likely get a dog :)

 

Especially beagles. Really love them!!! :)

A fear sparked by an incident when you were that young can be tough to overcome. Glad your sister's dog has helped.

 

I spent many years working in and around the pet industry, mostly part time, and actually managed a pet store for a while, as well. I have owned, aside from the dogs, cats, a ferret, parrots, parakeets, finches, fresh and saltwater fish along with various snakes and lizards. I have handled pretty much anything that is legal to sell, including scorpions, tarantulas and a few snakes that were in excess of 10 feet long.

 

I actually had the opportunity, once, to pet a full grown Bengal tiger. A truly awesome experience.

 

Along the way I have been bitten by quite a number of different animals (more snake bites than I can count). The worst, requiring a doctor visit, was a bite to the nose by a 3ft long iguana (their mouths are cesspools and their teeth are very sharp, though small). I am careful around some animals but I don't think I am actually afraid of any of them anymore.
