Mission 10 Help

Recommended Posts

and i'm back again! this time mission 10 has me stumped. can you shed some light on how close you have to be to the waypoint locations and times to get through this? around waypoint 2 i keep getting the message "enemy forces are on the move, you must have been spotted" then proceed to get blown up

does that mean i missed my waypoints? i thought i was spot on

one other question, was reviewing the flight plan to try and see what altitude i needed to be at, and was confused because it says 7,545 feet as the starting altitude? i think the field is around 1400 feet.

thanks for any help!

Well hello again there dresoccer4 :)

Mission 10 is a tough one, because it's so different than any other mission in DCS. You're not the first to ask about this, nor will you be the last. haha. I'll quick put in a link about this same thing from another thread. That should answer a lot of your questions.

https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=173422

be sure to check out my response which is the #3 post of that thread.

And here's a link to a video I made specifically for mission 10:

To answer your question about the picture you posted, that airport information page states "06 7,545ft" Which means you'll be departing on Runway 06 (so a heading of around 060) and the length of that runway is 7,545ft. The box just below that "Initial Departure Heading" tells you what speed you should do, as well as what altitude you should climb to. Here it says "Speed: 300" and ALT: On Deck. So keep as low as possible. Once you hit that first waypoint, which is the Outer Marker, you'll have to refer to the Special Routing Instructions.

Have fun, this is one of my favorite missions. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. That youtube video should help quite a bit too.

update: finished it! really wasn't too bad once i figured out how to keep track of my total time and adjust my speed. definitely a cool and unique mission. ED and other mission designers should take note!

I found that headings in briefing table don't quite match in-game map data . I failed three times because of that, so I just printed corrected data for each waypoint and used it to adjust my flight.

If someone has the the same troubles, just use this map:

Each waypoint there shows the heading and what speed to maintain till the next point.

Also, it seems there is an alternative option to finish the mission without completing waypoints race. :)

Mirage's missiles launched from too close distance usually miss.

Just play cat&mouse till he is empty, then take down him in dogfight.

Mig15 with flaps down easily outmaneuvers Mirage in close combat.

This is the most "technical" mission of any that I know of. It puts almost every VFR flying skill to the test simultaneously. You can't just fly the route assigned (which you must do precisely), but you also have to fly the route according to a speed to meet certain gates at certain times. And you have to do all of this remaining low to the ground.

It is highly rewarding if it can be done successfully, and I can't tell you how many times I've specified that this mission will be difficult. There's a table that you can print off to make it easier to reference your route to (a larger version of what's in the briefing), and I even put together a comprehensive video demonstrating a successful flight in this mission.

If you need help, then ask for it. If it's to difficult (which nothing against you or anyone that finds it difficult, because IT IS) then skip it. But what is unacceptable is you flaming away at this mission because of whatever reason. It's hard, I know that, but it's far from impossible.

Having read the briefing and this thread I made my first attempt, limiting my speed to 300 km/h until the first red smoke plume, then accelerating to 550 km/h for the 2nd plume and to 600 km/h for the third. All the time closely watching the speedometer and handling the throttle and a tad of airbrake.

"Relic 01, enemy forces are on the move...." What? Checking the clock: too late. How could this be? The speeds in the briefing do not take account of the precious time required for a careful acceleration towards the next delineated speed and, perhaps, you do no need to stay at 300 km/h during the short leg towards the first smoke plume.

Then what? There was no message telling me I had failed the mission, but there was a message that enemy fighters had been scrambled. I decided to follow the smoke plumes back to base in the hope a long or medium range SAM system there would have my back. Speeding at tree top level or below, I checked the map and there was no such SAM system.

Looking around in panic whilst flying low I wondered what might happen to my poor MiG-15bis. Near Nalchik 'dot' labels allowed me to spot a hostile Mirage 2000C, one of my favorite DCS birds! Breaking into it flying in between apartment blocks, the Mirage was unable to fire a missile and when it was close I pulled up hard. The Mirage went vertical too and I managed to enter a low speed spin :-( Some rudder work allowed me to recover from the spin, and I followed with a dive recovering speed. Two turns later and a short burst of 23 mm at a high angle tore off the Mirage's right wing! I could not believe it! :-)

I decided to get back to the mission and flew at treetop level to the enemy base, popped up and the F-117 was blown up by a burst of 37 mm. I was no longer harassed by enemy planes whilst doing so. However, the debriefing showed that I was launched at by a Chaparral during the ingress. I had not even noticed.

A fun mission, even though I did not complete it the way it should have been done. I should have considered the time needed to accelerate the slow MiG.

I suggest watching the video. I did it last night and the video was very helpful, the 300kph in the briefing for the first leg is supposed to be an average of your starting time at 0 speed and end of leg at 600 kph.

While I’m here I would like to mention I did it twice because the 280 heading for the escape from Mozdok takes you right over a chaparral. The briefing map shows you must depart Mozdok at a low northwestern angle. I know 280 is more north than 290 but it’s close!

Also had fun failing and shooting down a Mirage, the AI just get themselves into the worse situation going close and vertical.

Hmm, I'll take a look at that heading. It should keep you clear of any SAM's. 290 is more north than 280 btw :P You're right though, 10 degrees shouldn't be the factor there.

Looking at the mission, you sure you're getting hit by a Chaparral? If you get near Mozdok, those units all de-activate. There is however a Linebacker M6 that sits off the departure end of runway 26. He's the reason you have to head 280 toward the small lake to get around.

As a fail safe, I'll add it so that if the Secret Plane is destroyed, it'll also remove those. Just in case you found a funny hole in my SAM blanket and weren't tripping the triggers that were expected.

You are right it must’ve been a linebacker. Should’ve saved the track:( You’re also right about the heading, I should’ve gone more south might’ve lived! Many thanks Apache

After a few failed attempts, I took a break and tonight completed if on my first try.

All you really need is a stopwatch and constant airspeed adjustments. E.g. if you took a wider than required turn, or were too slow to accelerate - add 10-15 knots to the required airspeed, and so on. Precisely follow the time table, keep calm - and you'll be fine.

One small issue tho.

After destroying the target, and halfway back to base, I accidentally activated "above 400ft" trigger - and got a pair of M2000 chasing me. Those Su-27 "defenders" were totally useless, and haven't even tried to attack them. I saw Mirage bullets, hitting the ramp around my plane, and the "mission completed" message at the same time o.O

Nice work Minsky. It takes some practice, patience, and a whole lot of discipline to get passed that mission. Those M2000's will chase you regardless of altitude. You just blew up something in their front yard. Now the SU-27's just flying in circles and not doing anything .... yeah, that's not what's supposed to happen. Glad you made it back in one piece.

This was a lovely mission! After reading so many opinions in the forum I prepared the mission almost like a proper pilot would do.

I printed the map, the notes, got myself a board with a water pen for taking notes on the fly, got everything set on start and when the flares went up I had everything ready for the strike!

I made all the points on time or at least inside the allowed bracket, because I completed the mission without incidences (aside from small arms fire over the airfield)

My tip for anyone trying to complete the mission is to have a mobile phone chronograph on your side and just keep a tad more speed than recommended. Once you arrive at the red smoke, brake if you need to adjust your ToT.

By the way, I think I punctured the fuel tanks around the bomber since it blew up nicely with a few MG shots! It should have been more "realistic" with the use of HVAR rockets.

Loving the campaign so far. It is incredible how natural it feels to use an old aircraft in a modern small scale conflict, and the little quantity of "handwavium" needed to do so.

Props to the maker!

Buggy mission 10

Never Mind the only bug is my brain

Just had to restart DCS :idiot::blush:

Gday I am really enjoying this campaign It is so much fun.

I can not get past mission 10.

I believe it has a bug I have attempted it about 20 times  Every time at waypoint 6 It tells me that I have been detected.

I am on speed on time down to the second & skimming the trees. When I get the detect message I punch the throttle get to target destroy it then get shot sown by the magical SU-27.:punch:

Has any one else had this issue. Its driving me nuts.  :helpsmilie:

I flew this some time ago (years?) in the MiG-15. It was hard, but doable. I am now trying it in the Sabre, and it is hard as heck. The charts provided are in Km/H and the sabre is in MpH, so yeah.

Well that's embarrassing on my behalf. Thankfully the "correct" version still exists in the mission.  The kneeboard was incorrectly copied over from the MiG-15, but the last page (page 8 i think) of the briefing pictures is correct.   I'd recommend writing those numbers down on a sheet of paper and referring to that.
Regardless though, I'll get that kneeboard corrected to the proper version.  Thanks for letting me know.

Yeah I just finished it by referring to the briefing one a couple times en route. It's a great mission design mate. Truly hair raising fun.

What would make it easier, but is perhaps complicated to implement, is some vocal feedback on your timings. Run a bit fast and they'd say "you're early, slow down" and vice versa.
