Guram
Thanks for replay Yeah I am still thinking getting 1080 but 980 ti is so much cheaper ( only 270$), so was not sure , should I get it or add money and get 1080? how much more gain in performance will I get from 1080? with my 4790K, 32 GB RAM and Gigabyte GA-Z97x-gaming 7 mobo, and in VR would it be significantly better than 980 ti? =DECOY=
my specs are below and i have the same cpu as you with a 1080. and i can run dcs in high settings using the rift. i would recommend a 10 series card if you can afford it Water cooled i9-9900K | Maximus Code XI MB | RTX3090 | 64GB | HP Reverb G2
NeilWillis
My policy is always to go for the most powerful available whenever update time arrives. Sure the 980 Ti is a truly excellent card, but going for a 1070/80 will mean it'll be a longer gap between updates. Some savings may be immediate, but long term, I suspect the 10 series will be more cost effective as it'll last longer between updates. Of course, your third option would be to wait until the 1080 comes down in price, which may prove to be the cheapest option long term. Especially if your current card isn't yet reaching saturation point.

tintifaxl
My guestimate is: 0%. But that could change with 2.5. Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.

Hmm, interesting hope you don't mind me asking , why there si no difference with 1.5.5 and why there will be with 2.5? is 2.5 gonna be Direct X12 based? BitMaster
It's because 2.x is DX11 that uses up to 2 cores for drawing and as we can see already now, it has no problem utilising big cards to 100%, which 1.5.x never did, most you get there is roughly 50-60% with powerful cards. It certainly makes sense to upgrade the GPU for 2.x. VRAM over clockspeed would be my guess. I wished it was DX12 cause that would mean another Turbo boost in 3D performance.
