Damm...so Leatherneck have lied with their plan of "Showing it and releasing it in no more than 2 weeks" :(

No one "lied" to you. This is the kind of stuff that drives me nuts.

You're not owed anything. There is no magic deadline that LNS needs to meet to satisfy your wants OR ELSE. Things said months ago are obviously subject to change.

Haha this starts to get out of hand. Perhaps someone should step in and straight things out! This is not constructive for anyone LN, ED, consumers.

Nothing to straighten out, its not ready for release yet. ED has returned a list of things that needs to be addressed, that testing is still on going.

For sure, just want folks to settle down abit. Stop begging! It will be released and we will enjoy. Meanwhile enjoy DCS with all its already fine modules.

Exactly. My initial statement was merely that LN said the release would be "very soon". That was more than two weeks ago. Hence, "very soon" >= "two weeks". Never implied anything just stating that none of us knows when it will be released.

A couple of things everyone:

1. I'm not sure if I ever said 2 weeks after announcement- we'd release. The intention was/is to get it out a few weeks after, yes-- but we don't know an exact date just yet. You'll be the first to know.

2. Minor bugs and polishing are no surprise. This is a very complex module, and it's important that we try and polish as much as possible before announcing a feasible release date.

That said though; tune in tomorrow for the grudgematch. We'll be flying the AJS-37 in multiplayer combat-- and shortly afterwards we will begin publishing in-depth systems and other videos on the aircraft (Startup, Navigation, Ground Radar- etc.).

Starting now with the Viggen- we're focusing on being more transparent than ever, and we'll keep you as best informed as we can.

It goes without saying that we are exhausted. Mentally and physically. Crunches do that to you.

Christmas is an incredibly important sales period, but I have trust in that a good module is more important than arbitrary dates.

Stay tuned!

Not taking a stance on this either way, but not owing someone something does not mean that you couldn't have lied to them. You're trying to relate two separate things.

Well no they said they sent it to QA at ED. Now traditionally it takes around 2-4 weeks for a module to get greenlit from ED's QA process, so long as everything goes to plan. It then goes on presale for around 4-6 weeks, during which time keys are generated, ect.

So realistically, at the earliest it would be 6 weeks.

Much appreciated . Just take the necessary time to polish the module and keep everyone updated. It's always better and fair and communicate that some more fine tuning is required than keeping people in the dark which always creates unnecessary noise.

Especially that it looks that Viggen managed to turn on a lot of people which may not have been so much into it from the very beggining :)

Good luck tomorrow splashing 21s

Thanks Cobra!

I'm looking forward to the Grudge Match :-)

You got it all there. For me it's more important to get a product with quality, and it's important to keep the audience updated on progress when it's announced. The release itself will come when it's ready :)

ED I believe is not the best communicator out there. A simple agenda or a forecast that is regurlarly updated as they go, is sufficient. No need to put in specific dates, just go with month or quarter, and draw the guess plan and change it as it goes depending on what happens...

Get some sleep LN team! You need it :D ! Crush the Fishbeds! ;)

It is up to ED to test and decide if its ready to release. That doesnt mean ED is holding it back because of anything other than its not ready enough to go.

If the Viggen is not released yet, its because the module isnt ready. I have seen the results of some of ED's testing and I know that it still needs more work yet. You all just need to try and be more patient and not try and find a conspiracy theory in every event...

There's no conspiracy theory here. If you're referring to the claims about how delays and silence affect market performance it's simply knowing how markets operate (heck just look at recent prominent game releases although every situation is different it is not hard to see how lessons learned from them apply).

I forgot to multiquote here (and I'm ridiculously lazy) But, delays create frustration, and you don't wanna bite the hand that feeds (ie. the paying consumer that makes all that year's work worth it. not sure if they turn a profit or not but the less of a profit it turns the more every dollar counts towards paying back all that time they spent away from their lives).

In reality all I'm trying to say here is when big name modules like the F-14 and F-18 come about they will make a big splash, not just in our little niche gaming community. The F-14 is highly iconic in pop culture and its quite possible these releases may bring in new players to our small community of simmer (especially our even smaller community of combat simmers!). If said people were interested on buying the products it is a very real possibility (understatement) they'll forget it even exists. Also taking into account of advertising algorithms work, unless they keep coming back and accessing information based on a plane or sim within a certain amount of time, that news phases out of their ad scope which means it becomes increasingly more difficult to reach those consumers.

All in all I'm not saying its easy for a small 3rd party developer to implement all these things and find that fine line between worst case scenario and best case scenario release time-frames or even how to market they product as effectively as other game industries can where there is money to pay for dedicated marketing specialists who dig through data all day.

In fact, its I've been highly impressed with the amount of work each of these developer teams have been able to do (and thankful too!! :joystick::pilotfly:)

I'm just saying what's going on now isn't working and offered some insight to a fellow forum poster.

Sidenote: I've also realized I've turned to writing ridiculously long and detailed posts rather than lurking. But I'm just going to attribute that to my love for flying (all I do nowadays is fly planes, make music, and program) :helpsmilie:

This is true. A lot of us were counting on it during that time since there is usually a few days off during the holidays in addition to plant shutdowns all over, but no pressure though. :)

some sort of expectation, reduced frustrations after day-to-day checking for news

Subliminally reduces the reality of the product at the same time hype goes down. Especially with silence, the standing of the developer goes down. This built up demoralization ends up making the "hype-leak" larger and draining more hype from the community. In the ends this ends up with more headaches for everyone with no benefit in the end (if anything more negatives).

In the end this conditions the consumer to be frustrated from the time from announcement for development down to the actual release date with sharp increases during these times of delays.

I'd rather be an informed and slightly disappointed consumer than frustrated and left in the dark.

You took the words of my mouth, well put!

Cobra fails to understand basic marketing strategy & customer relations.

The goodwill of LN's is at it's lowest point right now.

We heard the same too many times before. Why should we believe this now? For me those words have 0 credibility right now.

1:st, the frustration has never been about giving the release date!

It has always been about you not standing by your words.

Repeatedly you've given promises to the community of forthcoming development updates, that have never materialized.

I thought the "Viggen release week" would change things around here, but it's been an absolute anticlimax & the hype is gone for me.

You promised us an "first in-depth looks at the Viggen systems, functionality" past weekend & you didn't deliver.....again!

A simple forum post of just explaining why it was scratched, would have made it a no "big deal". Instead you ignored the community. In the same manner as you've done so many times before. Very disrespectful & unprofessional. Worst is that you keep doing it over & over again.

That's were all the frustration comes from!

In my book a man who doesn't adhere to his promises can't be trusted!

Thank you for the update. I am also quite excited about the systems videos and hope to see them soon.

The Grudge match also sounds cool, though it will be starting at the same time as my Mother in-laws Birthday lunch....I am now considering a serious case of "gastroenteritis"...:music_whistling:

In the span of 11 days, we will have published/released the following:

  • One announcement trailer

  • One gameplay swizzle reel,

  • 30+ screenshots

  • One night flying video
    the weekend that you bold
above. (perhaps it can be argued that it is of questionable depth, I prioritized the night video over cold start, but I certainly did not ignore anyone)

  • A 520 comment Reddit AUA session where we answered dozens of in-depth Viggen questions

  • 3 random screenshots (2 of the ground radar and 1 of the RBS-15)

  • Viggen makes it's debut in a livestreamed multiplayer match.

  • A bunch of developer posts scattered about

I really didn't expect anyone to be upset with this sort of density.

It's not like it's going to taper off, it's going to ramp up-- but we can't do more without running ourselves into the ground. It's not a trivial amount of work to just shoot and publish a simple start-up video.
