Underestimate? LOL. I was actually hoping that Japanese technology was a little more advanced than that. Wait...just let me get some aluminum tape so I can strap my 21" monitor to my head. Stick a TrackIR dot to the back of it...BOOM...I'm suddenly just as clever. :megalol: Imagining Megumi, Shinobu, or Taka (a few of my Japanese family members) wearing that thing on their heads...YIKES!

Finally something can make virtual pilots feel 9G.

agree

we're all easy at pulling 9G turns. this thing weighs 3 Kilos, about the same as a common helmet (an HGU-55 is about 2,5 kilos), at 1.0G, that is level flight (or on the ground).

Pulling 9G a pilot would feel about 9 times that weight, not easy to imagine...

Don't forget the arm of that weight though. The HGU-55s weight is all within just a couple centimeters of your head. This new contraption is not the same thing. ;)

I don't understand why someone dosnt just make a headset like the olympus Eyetreks they has a few years back (glasses with the equivalent of a 32 inch screen in them)....like these http://www.vrealities.com/eyetrek.html You could build in some motion tracking stuff like the new nintendo Wii (lol) pads, an there you have it, plus you could look around normally without having to get used to the way you do it with trackir.

Just my 2c worth anyway

I dont know why they bother.

Give me some 3d goggles with a decent res like 1280*1024, and with TIR I would be in heaven.

Heck with goggles like that for a decent price, I am not sure my wife could pry me from my computer..... got the HOTAS, TIR, iVibe seat...... just need some good goggles not those 800x600 bleh!

What is the role of that huge monitor anyway? Does Dark Helmet's helmet, in all its hugeness, not have a display inside it?

"I always have coffee when I watch radar!!! You know that!!!...Everybody knows that!!!"

"Of course we do, SIR!!!" :D
