Dedicated DCS World Rig (Anyone)

Recommended Posts

Pretty much so. I'd say I use my rig about 80% of the time for flying DCS. It's what I built it for.

MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control

I'm willing to bet a fairly large percentage have built their systems for DCS specifically. I surf the net with it of course but the vast majority of use is DCS.

I was thinking of doing a dedicated rig.

It would be a mini itx gaming dcs build but I'm wondering should I get i5 6600 or i7 6700. Reason non K is because I don't overclock and its itx

Was looking at getting obutto setup for my rig.

Was looking at this setup

Windows 7 Pro

i7 6700

GTX1070

Also does DCS have a bright future I always worry it might die out next year or in 3 years and I will be screwed with no combat sim. Just wish there were more developers on DCS plane making

I thought a rig like your describing would be the bees knees but now I have the rift the first thing to do is get W10 so I take advantage of ASW. Its a fine enough setup for DCS as long as you add plenty ram but if you have thoughts to upgrade to a rift or vive then future proof with W10

And my Rig was purpose built for DCS, it is now almost obsolete though. Godamn X58 chipset:doh:

And the only place ED is going is upwards and onwards, they have been producing quality flight sims for years, why would they stop now?

i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64

Yes, sort of. It was, indeed, built with DCS in mind, but I would call it my flight sim rig, since...

...(gasp) I do fly other sims.

My rig I built three years ago still handles DCS very well. X-79 chipset MB with an I-7 4820K running at 4.50 ghz rock solid.

I had thought about upgrading mb this year but after looking at the data decided my rig still more than handles what I need and the gains would just not be that great for the money. Recently added a GTX 1080 as well.

Maybe in another year or so. May add a Rift in 2017... still debating that one.

I do everything computer-related with my box, but I'd call it a DCS rig because if it weren't for DCS, I'd probably have given up all this computer nonsense many years ago :)

It doesn't matter what rig you put together, or how much you spend. It doesn't matter how many reviews you read, how many pages of technical specs you pore over for months while choosing components.

Any given computer, when on your desk and running, is obsolete, and you're always bitter about having outdated stuff that you can't properly upgrade, and have to fork over far too much money for the latest and greatest "future-proof" stuff just to see it becoming un-upgradeable in 6 months to a year, and then you buy a new system and are back on the 'need new computer again' bandwagon 6 months later. I learned that lesson many years ago.

LGA 1150? Nope, not good enough. Need ONE more pin. LGA 1151? Nope, that'll never do. Need four more. LGA 1155? Can't possibly get enough done with that. LGA 2011 V3? Oh, come one, why waste time with outdated tech. C'mon Intel, just create an LGA 10,000 spec and be done with it for 10 years before you need to develop LGA 10,001. I gave up at LGA 775.

My dedicated DCS Rig: Read system specs below.

Peace and happy warfare :)

Tailored for DCS alone, have plenty others for work, prefer Mac btw for anything but gaming DCS.

If you make a proper rig for DCS it can handle most tasks you could possibly throw at it ;)

Just received my new computer, built just to run DCS (don't tell Mrs CR4ZYHOR5E, I told her it was for her home office, though I think my cover was blown when the Warthog turned up)...

i7 6700k, GTX1080, 32Gb DDR4 @ 3400Mhz, M2 SSD for OS, SSD for DCS, TM Warthog, Rift CV1.

Got it on Tues, and am still trying to set everything up (struggling with TM profiles - don't really understand where to put LUA(?) files). Have spent the last 36 hours downloading NTTR at 260kbs! So I changed my provider to Fibre optic broadband yesterday - but wont get it for another couple of weeks, so need to struggle on with this for a while longer. By the middle of January I think I may be there.

Kitchen Command is a tough hurdle to take :)

Your rig is awesome btw.

I dont think you should put lua anywhere in Target tho there are a few approaches to this.

I just leave target all alone ever since and map the buttons inside DCS. It voids some features but will let you fly with less headaches imho

250kb/sec.... Sounds like a nightmare waaaaaah

You will love the power of LIGHT !!!

Guten tag BitMaster,

Thanks for the advice. Yes I think I will do as you suggest, I have been slowly mapping the buttons within DCS. Slow but it does enable a building block approach to learning the systems of the aircraft.

Yes, looking forward to getting a faster connection. My update did finish last night, and this morning I had my first experience of the Rift....

...words can not describe! A few setup niggles to negotiate, but very pleased with it.

Cheers,

CH

Mind you, that is still a big pain if you own many, most or all modules.

Takes HOURS even the easy way...something the devs should look into when they have a glass of red wine and a good mood. Something that carries over mappings easily, even for people who dont know what a right-click and drag&drop means. Most people I know regarding PC's have their end of knowledge right at that spot, seriously. It's a shame but the truth. Not saying those are bad gamers, they just dont wanna dive into it as we do, they swim on top whereas we dive deep into the ocean of never ending PC problems...WHERE'S MY OXYGEN MASK...I AM DEEEEP DOWN ;)

My Rig has always been built with DCS in mind. Just a little wait right now to see what comes about with AMD Ryzen before making decision either to go Intel Kaby Lake or AMD Ryzen. Whatever will give me the best DCS experience.

Outside of DCS the only games I play are the Battlefront Combat Mission war gaming series of CM Battle for Normandy, CM Fortress Italy, CM Red Thunder and CM Final Blitzkrieg. They don't require a fast CPU or even near top of the line GPU.

My current rig was bought just for DCS and it is the only thing I have installed. Aviation and flight simming is my passion and hobby. :) I upgraded the GPU to a GTX 1060 but still want to increase the size of my SSD and increase RAM from 16 to 32

My current rig was updated for DCS, but that was 4 years ago ,780 Ti 's with 3gb are abit of a bottleneck for Nevada now. The next one will be purely decided with DCS in mind. Now i am only waiting for DCS 2.5, for Nvidia 1080Ti or maybe new AMD and for Kbay lake 7700k or new Ryzen.

The icing for me would be the Eurofighter module. But i am not in a hurry for any except 2.5, once that is out and i have tried it out with my current rig, only then i will start the quest for the rest.

With your CPU I wouldnt bother upgrading at all, at least not the CPU part.

1080Ti--hell yes...but keep that Devil :)

Still miss my SandyBridge, that 6700k I got till today cant convince me at all, maybe with the new board...big maybe.
