Suggestion for ALL server owners - mission filenames

How about you put the flyable aircraft types, or at least an indicative setting DATE in your mission file names people?

This way, we can all easily see what machines your server has active from the main list without having to check each server manually.

e.g. - save your mission file as something like these suggestions

  • F86 Mig17 - 1953 Korea Smash v1
  • Bf109 FW190 P51 SpitIX - WW2 dogfight map
  • SU27 M2000 A10 - Caucasus ~~~ Caucasus mission v2.22

I know that sometimes the DCS server list will populate the central window with what aircraft types are available but this is not suitable for three reasons:

1. It populates inconsistently

2. It is often slow to populate

3. You have to view each server one by one

I'd prefer the consistency of the display you mentioned fixed in this. Everyone needs to spend a little more time reading the MP browser list and then the briefings, making things faster/more accessible actually detracts from the effort designers are putting in for complexity in play...or TLDR; people don;t read anything and argue about what side of the runway they should take off from.

that's why there's sometimes a server description or the server named after the setting

OR

some servers have threads in here, in which they tell you, in which time they are playing

"sometimes".. "some"

This is the problem. If everyone approached this in a consistent way, then it would be so much faster to find and connect to a server.

Server owners in DCS seem to be more interested in getting their server to the "top" of the alphabetical list

(with silly names like ==== AAAA ** SERVER ======)

rather than providing the data that helps us players find a suitable environment quickly.

Simply displaying a list of flyable aircraft types in the mission filename seems like a good solution to me. This way, servers which have different maps with different planesets can still use the same system.

If I have to alt-tab back and forward to the forums, and then click on each server one by one to read their aircraft list.. only to find that server isn't up today.. or the thread is old and they changed their flyables list.. that doesnÄt seem very user friendly.

I know the information is out there., but it's a matter of accessiblity. I'm just offering a suggestion (not a demand) for mission makers to potentially increase their player count.

Alternatively, the "devs" could provide a filter to the server list where you can filter the list by flyable aircraft type....But in the absence of that, providing information in the mission filename really helps.

people don;t read anything and argue about what side of the runway they should take off from.

Sans emergency, takeoff and land into wind... you don't need to read a mission-brief to know that. . . and if mission makers put spawn points near-ish either threshold.. then players can spawn near the correct end no matter which way the wind is blowing.

I wouldn't blame the player-base for that one. It just sounds like poor mission design.....

It's a reasonable request... I'm not sure I'll squeeze it into the file name (though in some cases it's not out of the question) but I do think it's important to highlight the available modules in the server description.

You made me go and adjust accordingly...
