We Need Bomber Modules

So, I flew the Burning Skies server today. Worked my way up to 25,000 feet.

Nobody flies up here where the Spit's performance is ideal.

Let's get some bomber modules of the era and force higher altitude fights.

A.I. does not interest me at all.

How about missions with AI bombers, which the humans players should escort? This might help bring some action up to altitude...

eekz already has a mission with bombers. We tested it at the burning skies event last year. Was a fun mission but when I asked when he was going to add them to the regular mission he said he didn't want to till Normandy. Not sure about the altitude changing the balance too much but it'd certainly be interesting for a change.

LOL.....I don't know. I'm use to shooting down and escorting AN-26's, and C-130's. I'll be shocked the first time I go for one of those WWII era bombers and they don't start dropping flares.

25 000 feet is hardly ideal for this LF Spitfire, it has a low-medium altitude engine that best works anywhere around (or under) 16-20 000 feet. At 25 000 feet, its running out of breath (engine power).

You must be thinking the HF variant or the XIV, which we do not have.

It depends on what "performance" you mean. As you can see, thought the critical altitude is about 21000 ft for max speed, the maximal speed does not decrease significantly at 25000.

If you mean climb at the climb IAS - yes, 16000 is the critical. Anyway, at combat speed the best range will migrate to higher altitudes due to ram pressure addition.

Lol - you should know better Kurfy.

Since when is 400+ mph at 22,000ft running out of breath? The LF. IXc has a service ceiling of +40k ft

Running out of breath! Ha!

Running out of breath! Ha!

It was a poor choice of phrase. "Running out of breath" is typically used to indicate imminint athletic failure. Applying the metaphor to an aspirated aircraft engine is appropriate at the altitude where that engine is no longer able to gerate any thrust at all. So, it definitely has no place at 25,000ft for the Merlin 66!

However, if Kurfürst simply means some like the merlin starts to loose thrust as that point, on a curve towards zero thurst as altitude increases, then fine, it is "runing out of breath". But that's similar to saying that 1-year-old babies have started dying... true from one perspective, but taking massive linguisitc liberties in the process.

After fighting with Spits at 8K yesterday I gotta say it didn't seem any more or less dangerous than usual.

I would really love to see study sim quality bombers added to the DCS World line up. I would love to learn to sim fly planes like the B-24, a B-25, B-17, and B-29. Specifically for the Normandy map and given the fact that players like to stay low and fast, maybe a De Havilland Mosquito B.IV Series II would be a good first bomber? A Mosquito seems like a really fun plane to sim fly. MJ

Agreed. I would give my left nut for a Mosquito in DCS. This aircraft would fit perfectly into the Normandy map.

Heck you can have them both for a Lancaster! :D

This is silly. You need player bombers because the OP is too snobby to shoot down AI? Why do you need a player to fly straight and level when you shoot them down when an AI can do that just as well? Come on get real.

Player bombers won't work without multicrew and if they can't manage that for the Huey, what makes you think they'll pull off anything with more crew slots?

Please, it takes years to get a plane into DCS this would really be a huge waste.

Don't think it turned out to be a waste in any of the other ww2 sims. Just because you wouldn't fly it doesn't mean no one else will.

I actually have a friend that finds flying a fighter boring and useless.

Work of a fighter revolves around the bomber. They escort bombers and they intercept bombers, they win air superioty so the bomber can get through or to make it impossible for enemy bombers/groundpounders to attack their troops. Those are primary tasks of a fighter.

Without the bomber, there is little purpose to a fighter.

Should go play those other WW2 sims then.

Considering the length of time it takes to get a single seat fighter into the game, why go to all the trouble for a bomber with a big crew when 80% of the function will be handled by the AI anyway?

It would be a huge project that doesn't make practical or financial sense.

Agree totally but those bombers can be AI set to fly formation at 25,000, bomb target, and RTB. They don't need to be player modules.
