thrashant
Dear developers, Thank you for the wonderful Mod! Tell me please, how can I increase the brightness of the instrument lighting? and change the color to a white? Where can I change the settings of colors and intensity? shab249
You cant change the lights to other colors but you can increase and decrease the level of light by playing with the light switches in the far down right side of the cockpit And there is a switch for white light but only for the right and left panels in a diffrent switch Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

LCYCowboy
The mig-21 cockpit has one of the most fantastic, ambient night lighting in DCS (at least in VR). If the original Mig is lit in Red, why would you want white?
Harpoon
The mig-21 cockpit has one of the most fantastic, ambient night lighting in DCS (at least in VR). If the original Mig is lit in Red, why would you want white? that's like asking "why would you want your su-27 camouflaged like the ground instead of the sea?" it's his preference, not yours. no reason to ask. to OP: i think leatherneck basically did their own way of coding with the lighting system in the cockpit. it's not like any flaming cliffs pit where the lighting is a simple texture that fades in by pressing a key; i think it would be really hard to find the code to change that color. i'll look into it myself Edited February 12, 2017 by Harpoon If you want to talk to anyone about anything personal, send it to their PM box. NeilWillis
I'd say asking why anyone would want white light was a very fair point - why would you want to have a lighting colour that doesn't exist in the prototype? Is tweaking the flight envelope next on the list? Or maybe arming them with Phoenix missiles and a modern radar system? All airframes can be repainted, but to change the cockpit lighting would require every panel removing, and all the light bulbs swapping. Good luck getting any crew chief to do that for you! Not only that, but the red lights are there for a reason - to preserve the night vision.
Harpoon
i don't know where you guys are going with this. i've never been affected in the same way by a computer monitor as opposed to real light when it comes to natural night vision. red is proven to be the best color for night lights, but so what. i personally don't give much of my opinion just because he wants some white lights instead of red, it's not going to ruin his night flying. just give him some bloody help with his attempts at modding or don't bother replying to the thread. he could color his cockpit pink for all i care, it's his choice. NeilWillis
And we care what you think? I notice you didn't tell him how either, so why did you post? Pot and kettle?
mkiii
the glowing switch labels are simple, just changet the rgb colour from red to white on the textures named with _N_ in the cockpit textures zip file EG Mig-21-cockpit-T_1_N.tga.dds and similar. The instruments are trickier. The main set of instruments texture is Mig_21-cockpit_018.tga.dds, with an alpha channel that seems to define the amount of red glow. Where this actually gets the red colour from is beyond me atm. Perhaps it is defined in a lua file, or even hard coded? Perhaps mainpanel_init.lua or materials.lua in the main Cockpit folder of the Mig?
