DCS World Community Discord?

I'd be happy to host one if people are interested in joining. I've been part of the Flaming Cliffs community since Lock On 1.0 (people may know me as "that guy who coined the nickname Leviathan for the WF-33", or "that guy with the lame Ace Combat music Lock On videos on Youtube from 2008 or something") and would be happy to lend a hand. Games like War Thunder and Space Engineers also have a community Discord. It seems to be the popular thing to do.

So, who's interested in a community discord? Or does one already exist? If I end up hosting one I'm obviously going to be giving moderators here access to admin powers. It would be silly not to. I already run a few other online communities.

https://discordapp.com/

This is Discord. Basically, a big chatroom that would (if we wanted) have the option for voice chats as well.

It's like IRC and Teamspeak had a baby, and it was then raised by Skype before he became an alcoholic abusive father figure whose house is always getting robbed. (Discord is pretty good imho.)

I'd post a link to our Discord channel, and people could join it. Maybe even get a sticky thread going! I noticed we have a Facebook group now, too.

Call me oldfashioned, but I prefer forums like this over chatrooms. At least for this special case we have here: this is a support forum where we share mainly questions and answers - or simply knowledge - regarding our hobby.

Due to the asynchrone and persistent nature of a forum, it allows for much more people to participate. Often days, weeks or even years later someone comes and adds valuable input to some topic.

Due to it structure (topic s specific sub-forums and threads), it allows for easier access to those questions and answers. The search function is (while not optimal, though ...) also is a usefull feature.

I remember meeting a lot of friends back in the IRC "Kali" days. Anywhere you can meet up with others to enjoy your hobby - that's a good thing. Good and bad in everything though. I'm guessing you will get regulars using it in no time.

P.S. Rangi took the words right out of my mouth :)

A chatroom is designated for a different purpose entirely. It also has voice functions. Ergo, it's not meant as a place for long winded input and discussion. It's meant instead for hanging out and actively gaming individuals.

And since we don't have one already, I think I might as well make a DCS Discord channel. ^^ I'll get back soon with a link.
