The beta is generally patched before the stable version for any bugs to show themselves and the stable version gets the fixed patch generally the following week.

I have both installed, but rarely now do I fly with the Stable version, always just use the Open Beta. Figured I would at least help in maybe finding any bugs as well... here lately though they have mostly been the same version.

Hopefully they will all be merged into 2.5 here soon.

The difference between beta and stable is that for stable the notifications about "beta" updates is disabled.

In other words, with beta you can decide if to accept the "beta" update or not. If you skip "beta" update (just say no when DCS asks you whether to update) your version will be the same as stable. If you want to get something earlier just accept the beta patch.

Accepting an update is a user decision - not an automatically enforced action.

Updates to the stable version can be skipped in the exact same way.

you need 1.5 as the base version and a lat of planes need 1.5.6 beta

There is no 1.5.6 beta now!

At the moment there is a beta branch, but not beta version. It's confusing, isn't it? :D

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

We have 3 public versions, two of them are early access

release

open beta / early access / public test

open alpha / early access / public test / requires purchase of NTTR terrain

you can see all version numbers here http://updates.digitalcombatsimulator.com/

you can download all three from here https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/

release version is the one you want if you are new

if you want to try updates before they get released you can install open beta

if you want to purchase the NTTR terrain and get early access to it you can install open alpha

sometimes release and open beta are the same version number.

all three versions run independently of each other
