I have saved up and placed the order. I pick it up at BestBuy today. I am so excited I am jumping out of my skin. I have no idea what to expect. I have the system and Nvidia Card to run it.

I may pull an all nighter and suck it up tomorrow at work.:)

I am joining the ranks of VR!

And yes this is an issue as I can't calm down.

I can barely describe the experience I had last night with my Rift. I knew going in about the graphics. Having flown in helos, in the Navy, I can tell you, at times, your eyes get tired from staying focused on the instruments and they tend to blur after a while. The SH-3H was a vibes monster but transitioning to the SH-60F was riding in a Cadillac. Still, the vibes get you after a while.

Back to the Rift. I jumped into the Viggen, after setting up the graphics and hovering around 25 to 45 FPS, good to go. I was in no way prepared for what I experienced. It is not hype. Some claim there is too much hype over VR. It is not hype. I was stunned. Having used TrackIR for years I was not prepared to just sit there and look around. The cockpit did not swing around me and for a second I thought it wasn't working. Everything is 3D. Everything is 3D. Everything is 3D.

I pulled out to taxi and with my Buttkicker, sending the seat of the pants feeling, I started to get high as a kite on natural brain chems. I was departing out if Vaziani. I got to the runway very slowly because it felt like I had never done this before.

I lined up and push the throttle through all three stages. I got to 280KMH and pulled back that stick and then it happened. Holy $hit, I am flying! I rolled left to enter the pattern and felt every movement. My head was swimming a little. Whoa, feeling a little weird now. I leveled out at 1000 feet and I felt like I was at 1000 feet. I really wanted to lean my head all the way back in my Volair Sim Pit chair just to take the motion sickness edge off. I was in the downwind and turned to line up on the base leg. Again, my head leans and I feel every bit of the turn. Once I entered short final the nose was blocking my runway. I lean up and forward and I am looking over the nose and brought her down safely.

I have a full cockpit with three touchscreens running Helios. I have the Saitek pro panels as well and a Pro Throttle Quadrant. I can use the panels to an extent but I would forego all of that to fly with this Oculus Rift. And flying a WWII Warbird? In the words of the character Lefty, in Donnie Brasko, portrayed by Al Pacino, “F**CKING FORGET ABOUT IT!”

Tempted to go VR myself one day, just haven't got around to spending the money.

Not done much in the way of research yet but is 90 FPS required for smooth gameplay, however i believe there is some kind of software that allows you to run at 45 FPS ?.

How would the system below cope..... or is more powerful system required ?.

45 FPS is the norm for VR Gunnergolly. There is a need for a very powerful machine, though a 900 series card and a top end CPU running 16 Gb of RAM are very capable. So your CPU appears to be the weak link, but may still fit the bill. I personally would upgrade that first however.

One way to find out for sure is to run the diagnostics available on the Oculus website.

My hot button issue right now is I can't seem to access the very bottom menu buttons in Multiplayer. When I select an aircraft can hit the button but nothing happens. Weirdly I could not escape so I hit the keyboard escape and ended up in the jet. That is strange.

You might want to check your windows bottom menu bar isnt in the way, as the resolution gets pushed below it. Just drag it to the left or right of your desktop, then you should be able to hit the ingame buttons fine.

Suprising the old i5 is still running DCS very well which is why i have never got around to changing it.

Downtown Vegas in the MIG-21 is not brilliant (54 FPS) but almost everywhere else in the "DCS" empire runs very smooth.

However out of curiosity i'll give the Oculus diagnostics tool a go.

Thanks.

Just taken the test and it says that my processor doesn't make the grade ...

Once we go to DCS 2.5 and the VR feedback is good i might just take the jump myself..

I got my Rift a little over a month ago, and my experience has been the same. It is so incredible, I am no longer gaming on my 2d monitor. VR titles only for me now going forward.

DCS is fantastic in VR, and will only keep getting better!

I would not worry about that test in the least, especially if you are running at 4.6 Ghz - you will be fine. I am sure that test does not take any overclocking into account. You have a strong rig there.

Hit Alt-Enter when you use the Rift to make it run in full screen mode. It forces the DCS Window to the front, and solves the problem you mentioned. It can also improves frame rates to run that way.

I had the same issue. It turned out out that the cursor on the 2d monitor was going into the windows toolbar on the bottom of the screen which would cause it to become deactivated in the rift. I moved my windows toolbar to the right side side and it never happened again.

Absolutely, going to true full screen in DCS is a must for VR. I was pulling my hair out initially over this one as I could not click on certain items.

Well, that's it... you jerks finally wore me down with all your rave posts... I tried to resist until gen2... ordered a vive and it arrives saturday.

damnit...

Why did you choose the Vive as a matter of interest? I presume you are looking to use it for a lot more beside DCS World? I ask because the advantages of the Rift in DCS World are clear.

Moral reasons aside, yea... other games. I am hopeful that eventually the vive will be just as good as the rift in DCS world.

In fact the last patch notes:

Improved quality of supersampling (applications that render much higher resolution than the recommended resolution). Added a slider to the developer settings page to set supersampling amount between 0.8x-2.4x the recommended resolution.
