They are all IR guided missiles.

 

CAP 9M is a captive training round, it won't fire.

 

GAR-8 is AIM-9B, pretty much the first operational version of Sidewinder, and is utter crap against any evasive target :). It is rear aspect only, meaning rhe missile seeker needs ro be looking right into the target's jet nozzle(s).

 

AIM-9P is also rear aspect but is a much more capable missile. P5 version is the same missile but with a more modern seeker head that allow for all aspect capability.

so in short

 

the Aim9P5 is the most capable of the missiles available for the F5, and you should stick to using that unless you want a challenge and intentionally go with the earlier gen heat seekers.
