Clearing a GPU doubt

Hi everyone,

 

Im really sorry if this section isnt meant for this type of threads, i just couldnt find another place to post it.

 

The deal is:

 

I have a GTX750ti 2gb and im about to get a new gpu because i found myself playing games mostly at mid settings and i want to go faster/better.

 

I have in my mind a RX480 4gb.

 

Is there any problem with DCS with AMD or is 4gb enough (i could get the 8gb too). ?

 

What im asking here is "Is there something that i should know about DCS before buying a GPU?"

if 4 is enough i think im going that way, paying for an 8gb i feel like im wasting money in a card that isnt that fast so i would be changing it later anyways haha. idk, maybe... what do u think?

If you have the money for the 8gb, you should get it if you have a 2K or 4K monitor, so the GPU can store more high quality textures

 

Otherwise 4gb should be ok for DCS

Im running at 1080p right now but i think i will be getting a 3 monitor setup of 3 1080p 23". dont know wich resolution will it be (didnt checked). So now that you point it out maybe i could go with the 8gb. is that card worth to have 8gb? (asking opinions of course)

if you use 3 Monitors, i think it should be better with 8gb.

No issues with DCS and the R295X2.

Quite happy with it going on 3 years.

With 3 x 1080p you are running 75% load of a 4k system.

 

I am nit really sure if that will deliver what you look for as you state that you look for speed.

 

 

The RX480 4 or 8 GB cards are very nice till 1440p ( FullHD till WQHD ). The tripple 1080p might be a bit too much...maybe

I've used both and I haven't noticed any evidence for that. Some of that perception might come from the extra cost of nvidia; the chocolate is that much more delicious when it costs $10 instead of $5.

If Gavagai can run a 4K (3840x2160) with a Gtx1070. I can run 3 screens with the Gtx1070.

3 screens is 5760x1080 (landscape) or 3240x1920 (portrait).

Indeed, but I found out that others enjoy more pixels over speed sometimes.

 

I for one would not exchange mine vs. more pixels but less frames.

 

Flying is different at 30 fps to 60fps 90 fps and 120 fps.. even 160fps when fast and low make sense if your screen can pump them..but that is my personal thing. Speed first, then we turn the lights on ;)

Nvidia drivers have historically had lower CPU overhead. So any disparity you're likely to ever see scales with CPU performance. AMD's drivers have gotten better over time, as has CPU performance in general.

I have an RX 480 8GB, it's been very satisfactory in both DCS and BoS at 1080p. Previous card was a GTX770 and it was one hell of an upgrade. Can't say if the 1060 is better in DCS specifically, but in general the 480 and 1060 are equal in DX11 games since the December driver update (previously it was about 10℅ slower). In DX12 and Vulcan games, the 480 is substantially faster. Driver updates for Nvidia won't change that as the 480's advantage is hardware based.

Just grabbed a GTX 1060 FTW, and I'm pulling over 70 fps at times. IT can drop horribly low at Novo, but that seems to be a known issue. It's under $300, and has 6GB. I'm happy with it.

Did you play with mirror on or off ? If the mirror's on with 70 fps that's really good news :)

The RX480 does real well when it comes to other games and DX12, so for someone who not primarily buys for DCS the RX480 is a great card for the money.

Heck yes, indeed ! Mirrors are killers :(

 

 

I can enjoy real high fps, up to 170fps and not drop below 100 mostly...IF...I leave the damn mirrors OFF. Turn them on and fps are 60-120 fps range, like almost half on the 980GTX 4GB with my settings.

 

Turned them on lately and OMG where have my fps gone. Flew like that for 1 day and reverted back to no mirrors.

 

It's a shame tho, they are really usefull sometimes but the price is too high.

I hope ED would make mirrors more FPS friendly in the future. Mirrors can save your life in the heat of battle.

The problem is that mirrors are basically another camera view inserted into the main view. To make them realistic takes a lot of horsepower.

I' waiting for upcoming RX 580 or AMD Vega in few months later, should be a mass upgrade from HD 7970 :megalol:

That's my hope too....and then have NV counter big time as with Gsync I am kinda stuck with NV but need AMD as a competition driver to kick NV's behind...BIG TIME

 

 

BTW Cyrix is also back with x86...things get moving again....no crown stays on the same head forever *wink NV & Intel *wink !
