RAZBAM A-29B Supertucano

I've always wondered why the H model never made it to the Reno Air Races. I had been aware of its superior performance compared to the D model but I have never heard of an H model being raced. Do you supose it is due to fewer numbers probuced?

there were 555 of them produced out of the 2000 planned. Mass production stiill, but nowhere near as much as the P51D. Simple, war ended, and no more airframes were needed. Post ww2 jet powered aircraft were seen the future of airforces and replaced pistons over the years.

From some internet searches there is only 2 Surviving P51H in flying condition the US. so its a much rarer bird than the P51D. ( can see from the same source how many more owned P51D's there are)

I don't really read much about air races so i can only speculate, but logical conclusion would be it is a rare bird, and perhaps owners are not interested in racing. That or he doesn't fly often due to shortage of spare parts, thus not wanting to push the aircraft to its limits?

Yeah pushing an aircraft to its limits is a luxury that people who own very common aircraft can do.

In the UK most insurers won't touch you unless you agree never to use more than 40-ish% throttle I believe, even for spitfires whose spare parts are about as common as dirt (if slightly more expensive)

I am unreasonably excited for this aircraft, any idea where it is in development?

I believe it is on hold until the Harrier crunch is over?
