Fly f15c or other western jet on dirt runway xD and cross map in 15 minutes or less. Thats good example of SIMULATION offered by ED

Or good example of lack of imagination for what kind of missions you could do there... its all based on point of view. But lets be honest, Normandy is built for WWII, all other uses are a bonus.

A question for all the WWII naysayers:

I don't understand how you can be against the best recreations of the WWII birds in any game or sim ever made? I mean even if you don't fly them, why does their creation bother you so much? None of the WWII sim affecionados have ever had an opportunity for such lovingly created cockpits, deep systems modeling and great flight models before.

And no none of those other "sims" mentioned doesn't even come close.

I fly both WWII and the more modern stuff. I prefer the modern stuff, but I keep going back to the WWII birds. Why? Because it makes me a much better jet "pilot".

Yup, and those of us, you and me, that like all era's are in for a treat when the Hornet hits. From what I have seen, its really getting a lot of love. The thing that makes me mad about DCS is I have no time to learn all this stuff... trying to find time to really dig into the F-5 right now, but then I get distracted by something else... The Hornet will start cutting into my little bit of sleep I get :)

2.5 may have been delayed, but the hornet is a seperate team.

This isn't even considering all the 3rd party projects that are progressing apart from the ED teams. (Tomcat, Harrier, newer Mirage.)

That is not true.

Well its true read weekend update news.

We see 2016 as a big year for aircraft carrier operations as we plan to release both Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier modules. Both of these modules will be incredibly detailed models with working elevators, interior hanger bays, animated ship systems, and the ability to walk around inside the ships. These will be optional modules that would replace the existing ships currently in DCS World.

-01-29-2016

Our current focus is on the merger of DCS World 1.5 with DCS World 2.0. This version, termed DCS world 2.5, will return us to a unified DCS version with the new graphics engine and be capable of supporting multiple maps. In addition to these features, we also plan to include an improved Caucasus map, new and improved explosions and clouds, improved network code, and the new procedural grass and ground clutter.

In parallel with DCS World 2.5, we continue to make progress on the DCS: Strait of Hormuz map, DCS: Normandy map, DCS: F/A-18C Hornet, DCS: Spitfire IX, the option to add a Garmin GNS 430 navigation device that can be installed on various aircraft, continued improvements to Combined Arms, new additions to the DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range map, new campaigns, Kuznetsov and Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft updates, new effects, and other efforts mentioned in previous newsletters.

Perhaps our biggest focus is on the huge DCS World 2.5 Update that will unify DCS World 1.5 and 2.0. Not only will the DCS World 2.5 be one version to rule them all, it will also include a vastly improved Caucasus map. Features of the new map will include improved and higher resolution textures and elevation mesh, improved trees, higher density of ground objects, improved lighting and shadowing, terrain projected shadows, procedural grass, and other improvements. Best of all, this will be our free gift to you.

DCS World 2.5 is still on track to be available in 2016.

We have determined that the DCS World 2.5 update will not be available in 2016 as we had earlier hoped. This is mainly due to additional work needing to be done of the Caucasus map update, and we don’t feel it can be accomplished within the next two months at a high level of quality. Before we can complete this map update, we first need to finalize and release both the Nevada map update and the Normandy map. Those, along with the Spitfire, are now our highest priorities. Once the Nevada update and the Normandy map tasks are complete, our map team can return to the Caucuses map and move the 2.5 closer to an Open Beta release.

Well Sir u dont read updates then and u didnt seen any information. They were working parallel normandy/nttr/caucas and dcs 2.5. They even show screenshots etc. But in Nomvember 2016 they said that sorry we cannot finish it until end of 2016. (2 months isn't much) Soooo we have now 5 months during that time and still no updates since then. There were posting updates only about Normandy. They move they workhours from caucas and dcs 2.5 to normandy. otherwise we would have atm caucas map and 2.5

this is ridiculous what about all the people that want DCS WWII...

Ridiculous but true. Moved manpower delayed other things.

- Aircraft carriers with full model even inside walking

- Caucas map(much improved)

- DCS 2.5

- improved and higher resolution textures and elevation mesh, improved trees, higher density of ground objects, improved lighting and shadowing, terrain projected shadows, procedural grass

- improved trees

Thats gone for maybe next year. Bc moved manpower to other projects

Well its true read weekend update news.

You are reading more into than there is. Normandy is not stopping work on something like the Hornet... So once again, not true.

You dont see the work going on behind the scenes... Delays happen, its a fact of life, but its not always the thing you dont like slowing the thing you do like.

Where am I going with this? What is my point? After six years, the A-10C is still the best, most modern, most high fidelity, most deadly, and most amazing aircraft that we have. It feels right, it flies right, and it works right. Everything else has been well....an interesting historical experience. Am I the only one to raise an eyebrow when I get into my vintage 2011 A-10C and realize this is as good as it gets? When will we truly realize the potential of the fourth generation environment that is DCS? Much has been promised. A lot is in the works. It's 2017 folks. I hope sooner comes rather than later.

I think there are a couple factors to consider here...

1) the creation of a module to the levels ED wants, of the likes of the A-10C, is very difficult to do, to gather all the information and then put it all together. The A-10C itself was 5 years of development to release. Obviously that have probably streamlined a lot of stuff, but things coming with the Hornet, will again push the limits of simulation and take time.

2) WWII makes total sense for ED to develop as they have access to many of these aircraft/pilots/etc through TFC, the fact it took so long to dip their toes into it is more incredible than the fact that we are seeing a WWII push now.

I wish I could share what I have seen with the Hornet, but its really moving forward, and I dont think anyone will be disappointed, other than we dont have it right now.

On the other side: The game already have carrier, Caucasus map, 2.0x to tease 2.5... so all this above will be only "more of the same" with better graphics.

The incoming Normandy 1944 map is more desirable in short time, a proper place for fly Spit, P-51, Bf 109, Fw 190 - and "Final Countdown" with other planes.
