Headwarp
But did it because prices for some parts are going up and wont come down till next year at the earliest and my 6 year old 2500K is having BSOD's and freezes on HDD copies. Not sure what kind of mobo you're using but iaStor errors are apparently a common issue for people with a chipset supporting the i5 2500k. I generally try to check and make sure my ide/sata controller is "intel" rather than windows generic (or at least the recommended win10-64b driver for my mobo's sata controller), and feel like installing the software for my kingston ssd seemed to fix my BSOD's and freezes caused by the sata controller.. all peripherals (sticks, keyboard, mouse) are in usb 2.0 slots. Since installing win10 any driver causing errors immediately makes itself known.. and usually updating gets me back to being stable. 2500k is still a beast imo as well as it handles OC'ing. Congrats on your amazing new system and I hope it lasts you a long long time. ;) Perhaps you have a family member or friend who could benefit from that 2500k who's willing to put a little TLC into it. Pilotasso
I had to settle for the corsair 400C due to ETA to get the other cases (Phanteks P400 or Pro-M). I do have corsair fans ordered (3 RGB 120mm for exhaust plus 2 140mm ML PRO's for the AIO). The rest of the parts are as originally planned (see OP). The parts are only arriving monday, kinda hoped I would spend Easter building. But good things take their time. Konovalov
Hi Pilotasso, I hope you will be posting pics of your build once complete. Sounds really exciting. I'm in a similar position in terms of holding onto my current Bloomfield i7-950 X58 chipset for as long as I have and with a plus 1.2Ghz overclock. 6 1/2 years is a long time in computing and I feel now is the time to make the jump to a new and modern ecosystem. Still not sure which way to go yet, blue or red but given my limited gaming uses probably leaning towards pure IPC clock advantage of Intel. But I have to say the new R5 in particular the 1600 looks very appealing as far as 6 core s and 12 threads. Anyway looking forward to your completed build and how you feel it has changed your experience from the old trusty Sandy that you have got so many great years out of. :) Intel i7-8700K | Asus Maximus X Formula | Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 3200MHz | Gainward Phoenix GTX1070 GLH | Samsung 960 EVO NVMe 1 x 250GB OS & 1 x 500GB Games | Corsair RM750x 750W | Corsair Carbide Air 540| Win10 | Dell 27" 1440p 60Hz | Custom water loop: CPU EK-Supremacy EVO, GPU EK-GTX JetStream - Acetal+Nickel & Backplate, Radiator EK-Coolstream PE 360, Pump & Res EK-XRES 140 Revo D5, Fans 3 x EK-Vardar 120mm & 2 x Corsair ML140 140mm
Pilotasso
FYI Intel is releasing the x299 platform in June for 6-10 cores, you can compare performance and prices then. It's too late for me already as I pulled the plug before this news, but I wanted an 8 core and Intel for sure wont be matching this price to performance ratio anytime soon anyway. It will be an interesting battle between 6 core I7's VS 8 core R7's, and that IMHO is where it should be more interesting to look out for. I will document the build for sure! Edited April 14, 2017 by Pilotasso [sigpic]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic4448_29.gif[/sigpic] My PC specs below:Case: Corsair 400C PSU: SEASONIC SS-760XP2 760W Platinum CPU: AMD RYZEN 3900X (12C/24T) RAM: 32 GB 4266Mhz (two 2x8 kits) of trident Z RGB @3600Mhz CL 14 CR=1T MOBO: ASUS CROSSHAIR HERO VI AM4 GFX: GTX 1080Ti MSI Gaming X Cooler: NXZT Kraken X62 280mm AIO Storage: Samsung 960 EVO 1TB M.2+6GB WD 6Gb red HOTAS: Thrustmaster Warthog + CH pro pedals Monitor: Gigabyte AORUS AD27QD Freesync HDR400 1440P

Pilotasso
ahhhh I hit an obstacle already :D The cooler has AM3 bracket for the pump but doesn't come with an AM3 backplate for the motherboard (this is the only board still compatible with old AM3 coolers beyond the new AM4 standard). The dumbest part is that it DOES come with both intel counterparts. GAAAAAAH Have to wake up tomorrow early and head on for the shop, if they dont have a spare AM3 backplate I have to buy a whole separate cooler that comes with an AM3 backplate just to cannibalize it (usually its the other way around!!!). BitMaster
...I just read a review about the X52 on HardOCP this week and they also mention older sets still floating on shelves that dont have the new bracket and iirc they ( NZXT ) offer a free bracket, at least for the X52. Not sure if I repeat this properly but you may get 1 for free directly from NZXT - which would undoubtly take more time than "getting up early and head to the shop " but would be 4 free. Check hardocp and read that review, the X52 did perform quiet well btw. Pilotasso
I went back to the shop and got an AM3 backplate to use with the supplied AM3 bracket (much faster than ordering that AM4 bracket). :) The board with CPU+cooler is in the case already. :) Tomorrow Ill post pictures. Pilotasso
The DCS test was performed on the 2500K, but not on the R7 yet. I only had time to install the bare minimum last night to get a working machine and install Windows. This morning I installed the RGB fans with controller, it was a headache. Next Ill have my HDD installed, get the case closed (its bare right now), and then I am ready to start testing. Just FYI, I had no trouble bringing 1 kit of memories (2x8GB) to 2933Mhz on the first attempt without issues (didn't push it further yet). Ill get the other kit installed with May's AGESA update. We are not too far from VEGA launch either so that will be another point of interest for this build. Pilotasso
It's time for the photos These are the photos of the build, I just finished copying the old HDD and close the case. This is the AM3 backplate that I had to cannibalize. I left the original adhesive from the AM4 unit (its an impregnated foil that can be snapped on and off).
