4K TV owners... input please

So I am looking at buying this as it is on for 380 locally...

http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/seiki-ultra-high-definition-4k-smart-tv-48-in-2997550p.html#srp

I have a GTX 1070, 32 GB Ram and a i2600K at 4.3 GHz.

Do you think I will be able to run DCS on this TV and should I even if I can? Is anyone regretting using a 4k these days?

Cheers,

Better try find some comparative tests for TV vs monitor... YouTube is a great source for this.

The most important issue with TVs is related to input lag... and is pretty significant. Second one is related to clarity for some cases.

If the TV is not a plasma is better to stick to monitors. (Plasma TVs are already history for now, but latest generations had far better characteristics then current IPS)

I have no idea about that particular TV, but I'm using a 40" 4k Samsung and I love it. Even if I disregarded price, computer displays are too small so that I feel the need to sit at an unhealthy distance.

The first 4k TV I tried did have a lot of blur for a flight sim. This one is much better. I get 60hz with a 1070 and an HDMI cable. The TV is supposed to be 120hz capable, but I don't know if a display port adapter would get me past 60hz.

Be scrupulous about dead pixels. Newegg has a policy where up to 4 dead pixels is OK and cannot be returned. I returned two displays that had dead pixels near the middle of the screen. The third one still has a couple dead pixels, but they are in the upper left corner of the screen where I never notice them. These entry-level 4k TVs just don't have the quality control that you would expect from a computer display (costco had a members-only-online promotion where I gott this Samsung for $290 american).

Very nice cichlidfan. The larger computer displays I see advertised are usually 32" or 33". That must be a real beauty!

hmm - maybe the monitor is a better option - there is a 43" Phillips at best-buy right now... what kind of frames are you getting? But then hearing of Gav's success makes me majorly torn over this... gah!

I haven't checked frames in a long time, and don't recall the details of when I did.

The performance is quite acceptable, though I don't run everything on high. Of course, the card I am driving it with is a pretty good performer as well.

Btw, Phillips would not have been my brand of choice but there were pretty much no other options for 4k in that size, at the time.

You can check specs in my signature......I run 45-60 fps with most items on HIGH..... Just be sure 40" is big enough. I first I thought it was over the top....now I wish I had bought a 50".

Link? The largest 4k monitor I see on their website is 32".

All I can say is that if it's a choice between a 27" or 32" monitor, and a 40" or 50" TV, go bigger. It's kind of ridiculous for work related stuff. I tried to show my wife that I can easily fit 4 documents or spreadsheets on the desktop. She wasn't fooled of course.:D

For DCS I'm mostly at 60fps on the Nevada map. Flying through the strip is epic, but frames drop to 45-50ish if I turn to look sideways. Like others, I don't worry about running all the highest settings. High resolution is the eye candy I enjoy most.

Agreed. I went from a 27"@1440p monitor to a 42"@1080p TV for size over resolution. I wanted to go bigger but I really wanted a monitor instead of a TV. Eventually the 4k monitor will probably get turned into a TV by connecting it to an A/V receiver.

Don't discount the 34" 3440x1440 ultrawide monitors. Fewer pixels than a 4k screen but still about 2.5 times the pixels of a standard 1080p monitor, and the 21:9 aspect ratio is great. A monitor will generally be better than a TV too when it comes to response times and motion blur.

After using a 40" or larger screen, the UW monitors make me feel like I am looking through a slit.

seems $$$$ though. I'm scared to buy the Canadain tire tv linked in first post and not be happy but damn - 1K for the monitor seems steep

Precisely last week I ordered the Philips 43" monitor on Amazon. I just received it today!

So far I have unboxed and tried it out with my portable, no dead pixels, no burning in, and the sheet where you get all the info on the brightness throughout the TV in 25 different spots, is 23 at 100% and 2 are at 101%, that's quite good to my understanding.

Now have to start reconfiguring my obutto setup of triple monitors, to one 4k and one 1080 at each side, lets see how that works. I am also hoping to get a 1080Ti by the end of this month! (one of my 780Ti just failed a week ago)

So i am still seriously waffling on this... I just watched this video here and have to admit that the input lag really doesn't seem that noticeable to be honest... interesting thought on the 4:4:4 contrast though... That sony x800D sounds interesting.

That test at 2:28 (scrolling text) is the most concludent one.

Maybe for some would look just fine, but I can say that trying to stabilize/hover a Huey for example will be substantially challenging while on TV. Any FPS game will also suffer due to that lag. Also trying drifting a car wit Assetto Corsa will be more imprecise as well.

Of course, this depends on individual needs, but I just emphasized some of my experiences.
