Why can an AI trailing thick black smoke (that completely obscures the plane) keep flying and fighting/attacking as if nothing is wrong. Apparently no mechanical problems of any kind, oil leak, coolent loss, fuel leaks have no affect on the AI aircraft.

At times you just want to give up on DCS when other sims have a much better AI damage model.

This comes after chasing an AI 109 in a Spit that I had damaged and it stayed in the combat area continuing to attack ground targets while being completely obscured by his smoke when I could get close enough for a shot.

Please fix this.

Black smoke doesn't mean you can't fly because even players can fly with black smoke

Ai uses the SFM so they can survive better if parts missing but if you hit them right, they are dead after one shot

If you want to shoot someone smoking, try to either guess or shoot him in a turn

Razo+r is right.

The AI in DCS have a "simplified" flight model. This means their Flight modelling is not affected to the same degree by damage as a human-flown aircraft is. This is why you see them running at full tit, even with all sorts of particulate matter pouring out of various holes/ outlets.

For PvP you still get some of this (in addition to a disparity of visual damage effects depending on what perspective you view an aircraft from.. but that's a whole other story!), but it is much more obvious with the AI.

They AI will, however respond to major structural damage, such as loosing a wing. So, really, to bring them down you have to inflict major structural damage, like chopping a wing off.

The reason for this, it seems, is that the original damage work for DCS was done with missiles in mind. Now that we are seeing munitions as small as the .303 in game, the DM isn't capable of responding appropriately. With the "simplified" FM that the AI has, this problem is just exaggerated.

;3122324']It's lopsided too, I can lose an engine with a single round through the radiator but the AI are like terminators lol

I'm not aware that it is possible to count the number of rounds hitting our aircraft, and to track precisely where each one lands. Am I missing something?

Mig-29 flies with thick black smoke as standard!

This is from first hand RL experience of being intercepted by a 2-ship of them. Seriously, you can see them from miles away lol.

And yep the smoke trail changes as they enter/leave afterburner too.

There should be a sticky posted in every DCS catagory / thread saying:

IA cheats, we know it cheats. It has always cheated, and will most likely continue to cheat for the foreseeable future.

We apologize for this issue but in the interest of saving your frame rates, and keeping DCS from eating all of your memory, we have overly simplified every known function of all IA aircraft.

We sincerely hope that you understand. LOL

If I had a penny for every time some poor guy came to the forum and posted of their frustration, anger, angst, and disgust with themselves because the silly AI aircraft rips em a new one every time they go against it, I'd own my own P-51 and wouldn't need flight sims.

Sometimes it seems like an hourly occurrence.

Sorry CaptJack, it's just the general nature of AI AC. And it's not just in DCS. Many other flight sims suffer the same exact issues. It's a necessary evil that we all have to live with. :dunno:
