Question about Sticks

Recommended Posts

Hi dear forum friends!

I come to you today with a question I think someone here might be able to help me.

I want a new stick and I want it to be loose; yes, loose! :D

Why? Im a real pilot and I suffer a lot the fact that almost no stick in the market succeds in replicate how a real aircraft command stick feels. They actually feel loose and above everything, they dont re center so hard like joysticks.

So I once had an x52 pro which I sold due to personal issues. I am now looking to buy a new stick but I dont want the x52 pro due to its extremely low quality and pots problems.

BUT, I loved the stick. It was the most real life like experience ive had. unfortunately its not sold separately.

So I noticed that a lot of the 104th pilots use the Logitech 3D Pro.

Is there any stick that doesnt re center SO hard as the 90% of the sticks out there?

Thanks a lot for any thoughts you might provide.

Domestic joysticks don't have input of air flow over controls surfaces, so need springs to don't fall apart if you remove your hand of grip... :)

Probable the more close of what you want will be VKB Gunfighter with "dry clutch" what make possible customize the return to center, change CAM lever profile, springs tension.

Logitech 3D, Tm. T.16000M, Warthog, X-55/56 all center in similar way that X-52, using a compression spring.

Nice point, so the spring is the thing. My x52 pro had an incredible loose feel where you could move the stick with just looking at it. Thats what im looking for.

I know they will all tend to center but the thing is that for instance in choppers you need precise mini adjustments.

The x52 felt that way, dont know why or how.

VKB, Bauer, VirPil is a kind of "joystick boutique", you don't find then in Walmart's - specially in Latin America countries. :)

Need buy online from Russia, China (VKB).

Soon (that "two weeks, be sure™") VKB will sell trough Aliexpress, making then more accessible for countries in... "wrong side of world". :)

This site say that is (or will be) VKB seller, maybe he can help buy one:

The Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback sounds like the stick you're looking for. There is no center, with FFB turned way down it's very light.

I have the Sidewinder Precision 2. Ive had it for 24 years now and it performs like the very first day. The thing is that its so stiff to move that makes chopper flying so frustrating.

VKB has adjustable cams. You can set it however you want.

All of them? Cause Id go for the gladiator since the others are too expensive for me.

CAM gimbal is in:

Gladiator PRO

Gunfighter

Gladiator "vanila" use conventional "pincer" plastic gimbal (similar to CH's), but with grease damper, for "soften" the return to center.

It's said that "latter" will be possible upgrade Gladiator "vanila" for CAM gimbal for around ~$150

Yes, CAM is expensive, is made in CNC, all metal, with bearings, contactless sensors, see working:

I dont mind that much about the centering force rather than the force needed to overcome and move the stick from the center.

For instance, the T-16000M looks like it makes a lot of force to get back to center, BUT does it require a lot of force to move FROM the center?

There is a zip tie mod for the T.16000m that makes it softer.

A comparison with an without:

How to do the mod:

I have not done it so I cannot comment on it.

Of course, if joystick jump fast back to center is because use a heavy spring, so for move away from center will take more force.

Under $100 your best choice is Gladiator "vanila" - non PRO, without "Next Gen" CAM gimbal.

If you pick a joystick with heavy spring, e.g. Warhot and add a extension, the spring force will be reduced due leverage. See how with 20cm extension became "loose":

I'm very surprised that no one has mentioned the CH Products Fighterstick USB it is very light/loose on its return to center. Almost too light to my liking but it does center itself. The quality of the CH Products equipment is very good and they aren't very expensive. Definitely worth a try.

in my country they are hard to get, plus not very famous due to using pots (i know they are industrial pots).

too expensive for pots peripheric

Yeap, but CH products are a bit overpriced outside USA and it's very hard find it. In Spain is nearly imposible for example.

P.S. But Piston, CH products are amazing. The durability is legendary. Sokol is not a fan, we know, due to the low resolution (256 bits) of the pots. hehehe

im turning towards the Gladiator MkII. Its going to be back on stock in june 15th.

The most I look in a stick is a low resistance, mainly because I fly helicopters.

Do you think that the Gladiator MkII is similar to the gunfighter in terms of low resistance and low centering tendencies??

If you just wanted to kinda roll your own and try something that feels like a cyclic It's fairly cheap but effective

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.
