I am wondering is 250GB enough for my OS while my user folders are on 1 hdd and my games on another

Yeah it's more than enough space, but I remember reading that the M.2 does not really help with improving DCS performance, surprisingly. Just FYI.

What do you mean by performance? Loading time? Frame rate? Stuttering with texture and asset loading?

Unfortunately, I can't find the post but someone with a M.2 mentioned that they did not notice a performance boost in-game.

When I first loaded Win 10, it installed at around 20 Gig.

As for the M.2 drive, it's just one of those things that are nice to have, does it help in game? Probably not anymore than a standard SSD does, booting windows is almost instant and load times in game are super quick. Doing anything on the PC, like moving very large files is drag and drop cRazy fast.

I went for an M.2 for the general overall system speed, things like using Photoshop and video editing, not just for DCS.

Indeed - but not really surprisingly as no 'modern fast' hardware improves DCS performance, such as a GTX1080ti or 6700K etc. Just the way it is at the moment.

If your OS/general apps are on the M.2 but the sim is not then it will provide a very marginal improvement, if any.

I would personally NOT take any drive smaller than say 100GB for the OS, regardless if HDD SDD or whever they come up with.

Win10 does need an additional ~25GB FREE space when you install new BUILDS, if there is not enough space you will run into problems.

SSD's wear out faster if you keep them filled up all the time. The more free space the longer it lasts.

..and why would you buy a Ferrari and not take it to the track (DCS) but only to the bakery (OS)? By all means, get a 250 and install DCS and the OS on it, maximize performance from your given toolbox would be my approach.

My smallest SSD is a 850Pro-120GB for ym wifes Dell Latitude. She only does Facebook, Amazon and eBay, banking etc..no games, no videos, nothing of that. The 120GB is just OK for that purpose, dont go smaller.

I just rebuilt my PC with this M.2NVMe disc.

Had to abandon my W7 and move forward to W10...

I have 240GB disc and it is enough for W10 and DCSworld 2.5 with all WWII planes (i did not install NTTR and any modern modules which i own).

I can say that game loading is faster than was on my previous PC with W7 and SSD discs (intel 540 480GB for W7 and Games + intel 530 240Gb for the rest).

From 240Gb i still have 125GB free space now.

240 is enough IMO for Win and one DCS instalation.
