No reason why DCS should stutter on my rig

Recommended Posts

Hey guys and gals,

So for some reason DCS is damn near unplayable. The stutter is terrible, so much that I'm over compensating and crashing all the frakking time. Does anyone have any recommendations for graphic settings for the following rig:

I7-2600K

16GB Ram

AMD RX480 8GB

DCS World installed on a SSD

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

What are your current settings?

What DCS version?

I would:

- set everyting to low settings

- bring up the fps counter ingame

- increase the settings bit by bit and keep testing.

If your setup stutters badly with low settings, you have another problem...

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind combat pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

You need to significantly overclock that CPU to keep up with DCS, it is possible tho.

Many or most users who run a 2600k clock way above 4GHz, 4.5-5GHz is not unusual, I had mine at 5GHz back then.

Also, make a screenshot of your DCS settings and post them, often there is the mistake

I agree with bit... OC that chip! I have it and it will happily clock over 4GHz on stock cooling. Mine has been running at 4.2 for 3 years no problem on my stock cooler master haf 922 and Asus mobo. I used the asus EZ software to auto tune the chip to 4.2... literally 1 click.

Agreed on the OC as well. When I was running a 2600k it was at 4.4GHz, which is an easy level of OC to achieve.

So I just failed miserably. My attempts to overclock somehow fried two of my memory slots, so now I'm down to 8GB unless I can figure out what happened.

Maybe this is a sign that I should just suck it up and start saving for a new MB and Proc.

That would be a very seldom outcome to fry 2 of 4 Dimm Slots.... no..dont believe it.

Take out the CMOS Battery, put the jumper on CLEAR CMOS and short the 2 pins from the battery with a coin or other metal for 5-10min. Then reconnect to wall plug, put battery back in, rest jumper to normal and boot it UP ;)

You may have to take ALL memory modules out on the 1st try, i would do that, then power down again, plug ONE dimm into slot-2 and boot...then insert #4 and boot, then insert 1+3 as well and boot...HOPEFULLY I am right

check back in and report

in addition:

LIST ALL of your PC-parts: motherboard and bios, ram speed and make, cpu, cpu-cooler, gpu, psu, etc... that helps others a lot to help you ;)

I run standard settings for DCS and with high graphic settings it runs as smooth as silk in my 258 vehicle sand pit, with around 50fps, which is plenty for me.

Maybe you need to look elsewhere for your unplayable stutter.

I manually OC to 4.43 for FSX, but that puts the CPU up to 80C, which is near the 85C roof. Video editing will go through it in seconds, so I use 3.9 for that, which gives 75C.

DCS at 4.4 is about 70C.

The point, is if your going to overclock, then make sure your cooling is up to it and give it a good clean out and monitor it in the temp recording..

But I don't usually bother to OC for DCS, as the default works OK.

Update FYI.

OC 4.43

My temps. are clearly OTT, so I replaced my Viper with a Coolermaster 212X and the top temps are now,

DCS............ 54C

FSX............ 69C

Vegas render 68C

A good result.

I run my 2600K at 4.6ghz with a GTX1080ti and at 1440p with 2xAA I get between 50 and 130 fps with mirrors off, with mirrors on, around 40 fps.

I get screen freezes every once in a while on a super busy multiplayer server when a bunch of people spawn in at the same time, but that goes away when i get away from the airfield...
