DAWS Package for DCS World - discussion and bug report

Recommended Posts

this mod is built for squadron in mind and add some features to DCS World. The most important one allows you to save the scenery situation in any moment by using the F10 radio menu, updating units position, dead units, dead scenery objects and much more. It can be used in single player or in multiplayer, being the host (server) or the client. No DCS specific module is needed.

In the next versions will be added DCS ground units AI enhancement features, that will improve ground units behaviour, such automated artillery fire mission or ground units withdraw movements, or again suppression fire effect (thaks to MBot for its original script).

Links

You can download from AMVI site, here:

DCS World 2.5.x : temporary not available

Installation

see manual attached for install instructions. you can find it in \AMVI\Doc\ folder also (location will depend on installed version).

This thread

I'm asking everyone to report here suggestion, bugs or question about this mod.

Additional note

Save scenery won't "freeze" the situation allowing you to resume the ongoing mission, but it will create a new mission file with ground groups having updated their units composition, position and situation. It will also create a dead static object for any unit that has been destroyed in the scenery, and update the scenery start date/hour, the warehouse contents (didn't tested yet) and some other small things.

NEWS!

Automatic server restart feature added and... automatic weather update added ;)

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

How well is this working for others so far? 1.5 is currently working well for me. 2.1 shows up in the UI menu and the options panel, but the save feature is not working (no auto save or F10 option showing up) in missions.

Thank you for the quick reply. I did download from that link. I have downloaded the package from the link you just posted and used JSGME to put it in the users/savedgames/openalpha folder as instructed in the manual. I have not put anything in the main DCS World 2 open alpha folder/directory like I was instructed for the 1.5.x version. These are with clean reinstalls of both DCS versions. I have attached miz files from both the 1.5 (evolving war) and 2.1 (desert war and TEST). Thanks again for your assistance.

Both desert war and test miz work for me. So:

1. please check your write permissions in DCS main folder and saved games folder.

2. if this does not work, please send me dcs.log file that you should have in your saved games\dcs world.openalpha\logs\ folder.

thank you so much.

PS: desert war is a huge mission! DAWS took almost 3 sec to save them all in my laptop! If your server will have the same condition, I strongly suggest you to disable the autosave function and use manual save.

That fixed it. Excellent service sir!!! I highly recommend adding that to the manual for anyone not tech savvy or not reading this forum.

My server was able to do the save with just a tag bit of lag, but as I add planes, helicopters, and active ground units to the map, I'm sure there will be more. I'll take your advice on manual saving.

Excellent program, I have been waiting for something like this for years and recently came back into DCS after hearing about your program. Many thanks.

I'll try to remember to add that to the next release

Your app will save airfield resources?

When i set "initial" supplies in resource manager that will be the maximun supply for these airfield. After the save next mission will set new "initial" resources?

Thx for the amazing work

System Specs:

Windows 10 Pro x64, NVidia GeForce GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 4GB, FX 8350 4.0 Ghz ( Cooled by Custom Cooler ), 8GB DDR3 1600 Mhz , ASUS M5A97 R2.0, x1 240gb ssd (Windows) x1 120gb ssd (DCS World) x1 500gb hd, Thustmaster T Flight X, CH Pro Throttle and CH Pro Pedals

I have been looking at your code and I think almost the exact same code could be adapted so that it would sink the server time with the mission time. Basically I have been trying to find a way so that I can change the time of the mission to match a real world location. So far your code is the closest I have scene in the wild (there are some other people that have the function already coded but will not share their code).

Do you mind if I take a crack at it?

Also when you do think the FixedSavePath function will be activated? I use dropbox to sync mission files with my server that way if I need to change something I can just save the file on my computer and then restart the server. Problem is it saves it to the missions folder and I need it to save to c:\dropbox and I need it to keep the same mission file otherwise I have to go in and update the server setup each time.

Negative at the moment, cause I don't have the code/skill/functions to track warehouse storage changes. Consider that the code already have the tracking possibility... simply I can't track them.

Never, cause it was an old options removed. Sorry but you will need to use other solution. I might suggest you to use Teamviewer. Anyway you could always edit the DAWS_Package.lua file line 53. Honestly, dunno if that will work... maybe you'll broke something else.. try that ;)

"DAWS is saving mission..."

Stuck on that for a while. How fast this have to happen?

Simple mission with less than 20 static objects

Edit: i tried to spawn a unit marking late activation and using triggers to enable group. After the trigger DAWS cannot save.

The saving time should be immediate.

Can you please send me the mission to test that?

Thanks.

Hi chromium,

I have found this bug linked to the latest 1.57OB build. Every new mission created, I experience warehouse destruction after 2 seconds of the mission start as per images below.

attachment.php?attachmentid=169892&stc=1&d=1506521722

attachment.php?attachmentid=169893&stc=1&d=1506521722

attachment.php?attachmentid=169894&stc=1&d=1506521722

attachment.php?attachmentid=169896&stc=1&d=1506521743

All seems to be West Coast related and no shots are fired. If I remove DAWS_Package via JSGME, the problem disappears. Cheers.

Did you activate the map object persistence mod? if so, that's the reason (read the manual for more info). Anyway, send me the miz file and a screen of your DAWS Package setup.

PS:

OB is not supported officially... but if the built is the same as Stable should work the same way

Thanks chromium for the prompt reply.

I deactivated the MOP Mod and that solved my issue. Many thanks.
