CrazyEddies CVN Eye Candy for 1.5

Recommended Posts

I was asked to update this 2015 Mod for DCS2. Unfortunately DCS2 water works in a very different way to 1.5 and in DCS2 these ships all sit VERY low in the water. That is being worked on by my very good friend cdpkobra and we hope to release a new version for DCS2 sometime soon.

So what's in the file. Well, its HUGE, 600mb, because there are 4 CVN Carriers in there, with 2 versions of each one. The Mod comes with all 4 flight decks decks full of aircraft, and a file option to change the edm's for the same decks with less aircraft on them, so you can easily pick and chose what you prefer.

The Mod works on the basis of the in game USS Vinsen model, the parking spots are the same, the spawn spots are the same, each ship will act just like USS Vinsen. So, you will notice that in some models the default helo landing and spawning spot is the lowered side deck lift, logically if you set an AI aircraft to land there it will fall down the hole, and of course jets taking off will fly through the parked aircraft.

You can land on them, obviously not if you select a full deck version, and not all will allow you to land on or park, the spots are already taken up, so as it says, THIS IS MAINLY EYE CANDY.

However, many have used this mod to land on with helo's etc and everything is there to allow you to do that.

Read the README, swapping a full deck for a half full deck is very simple to do.

This Mod cannot be uploaded to the DCS site, its twice the allowed size, sorry.

On no account are these models to be used for any other Mod without the prior approval of cdpkobra, the edm's belong to him.

Here is CVN 73 and 74 to show you whats going on ...

Awesome! Downloading now

Update: Looks fantastic and I landed on the Teddy Roosevelt with the half full version no problem.

If you guys could get with the VF-113 Stingers who made the George W. Bush with working meatball mod and get that onto these carriers and get your aircraft onto that deck that would be epic.

You might notice that the wake behind 2 of the ships looks very different from normal, that is a residue of the trials we were making with DCS2 water. Those long straight lines behind the ships you currently see in DCS2, pretending to be the stern wash from a passing ship, well they are crap is the best way I can describe it.

This was the best way we could overcome it.

To correct it for 1.5 simply change this line in the offending ships lua

GT.Tail_Width = 0.000

change it to this

GT.Tail_Width = 18

The mod you are talking about, Crazyeddie, makes DCS to crash when you place a plane to take off from the ships.

That's why its labeled as eye candy ... see post #5 for an alternative Mod for flyable operations.

Thanks for the tips but the one is making DCS Crash is the one you are talking about.

Oh .. sorry I misunderstood.. I will check if it happens on my DCS too, and report back.

OK, I tried it and the mission editor doesnt let me place the plane (an Su-33) for taking off from the carrier, and if I set it up to land on the carrier, DCS crashes at the start of the mission :(

I'm not having any issues in 1.5.6 with this mod, I can land and take off and I can get AI to take off as well. You do kind of merge through the parked planes, but it works.

An updated V2.1 of this Mod for DCS2 is being tested, a new link will be added as soon as we are happy with it.

We are cloning this Mod to a different model, one that works better in DCS2.1, so I need to repaint all the decks and that will take a while, plus sorting out the edm's, that is a very slow process.

As they say down here in darkest Devon ... "Him'll be alon drekly"

Kobra is looking at a working Meatball but its very low priority for now, something we might add later on.

"It will be here soon" ... in case you were wondering !
