V1 - Coming Soon

Recommended Posts

Very good work indeed. Small passing thought, if you could document what you did and make that available (assuming that doesn't break any ED rules) to the community it would be very useful. Lack of knowledge is the real handicap. I hope one day the A4 guys might do the same if they can find the time to do so after the A4 is released.

The Spitfires and other aircraft types that did this used 150 Octane fuel, because the V1 is so fast.

The V1 chase aircraft performed other tasks as well, besides chasing VI's. The squadrons were put on V1 chasing duties on a rotational basis and performed other tasks in the English Channel and on the continent when not on anti V1 duty.

But, as we don't have the historically correct grade 150 Octane fuel modelled in DCS, V1 chasing and the other more general flying operations performed by 150 Octane aircraft will have to wait I would have thought.

Happy landings,

So SUNTSAG. Stop your development inmediatly.

This mod is not accurated historically because we dont have the correct fuel for the Spitfire.

Dont take in consideration any other thing, like pure fun to have this mode.

So stop now. Thanks.

PD: Irony inbound XD

Being pragmatic, could the V1 be made slower such that we can catch it?

Look forward to trying this out.

I'm surprised the V1 wasn't on the DCS Assets Pack, I don't even think it's planned as an official add-on is it?

Thank you for all your comments positive and negative, everyone is entitled to their opinion. We do a great deal of research when producing our mods and here is just a small snippet.....

The average speed of V-1s was 550 km/h (340 mph). Most aircraft were too slow to catch a V-1 unless they had a height advantage, allowing them to gain speed by diving on their target.

When V-1 attacks began in mid-June 1944, the only aircraft with the low-altitude speed to be effective against it was the Hawker Tempest. Fewer than 30 Tempests were available. The Tempest fleet was built up to over 100 aircraft by September 1944. Specially modified P-47M Thunderbolts (half their fuel tanks, half their 0.5in (12.7 mm) machine guns, boosted engines (2800 hp), all external fittings, and all their armour plate removed) were also pressed into service against the V-1s. In addition, North American P-51 Mustangs and Griffon-engine Supermarine Spitfire Mk XIVs were tuned to make them fast enough, and during the short summer nights the Tempests shared defensive duty with de Havilland Mosquito's.

Between June and 5 September 1944, a handful of 150 Wing Tempests shot down (638) flying bombs, with No. 3 Squadron RAF alone claiming (305). The next most successful interceptors were the Mosquito (623 victories), Spitfire XIV (303), and Mustang (232). All other types combined added 158. Even though it was not fully operational, the jet-powered Gloster Meteor was rushed into service with No. 616 Squadron RAF to fight the V-1s. It had ample speed but its cannons were prone to jamming, and it shot down only 13 V-1s.

I have modelled the speed of the V1 to enable the currently available aircraft within DCS to intercept our version from a higher altitude starting point. There are in-sim limitations relating to average speed settings. Now if someone is willing to provide me with a fully functioning and modelled aircraft type listed above I would be more than happy to test low altitude interceptions. I would welcome the addition of a flyable Tempest or Mosquito and the P47 in the pipeline will probably be the fully armoured variant without the additional boost. None of this is likely to happen any time soon.... so I won't hold my breath for fear of ending up looking like a Smurf. Lol.:megalol:

Bearing all this in mind, just enjoy the challenge of taking part in a simulated "Diver Mission" and bring one of these down with what's available to us all now. Besides it's free so download our mod when its complete or don't as you see fit.....or just use it as an artillery piece in your missions.

Just remember when you have your ultra ultra realism hat on (and there is nothing wrong with that standpoint) this is not 1944...you are not a real spitfire pilot......you can spawn a new aircraft when you die......Do you also not go up against 109s on the Normandy map because it wasn't introduced until approximately October 1944??

I don't wish to come across as rude or argumentative and as I mentioned earlier "everyone is entitled to their opinion" but please do not belittle the effort we modders go through to bring additional dimensions and options to those that may wish to partake, particularly functioning elements that are currently unavailable.

By the way I would also like to mention that other V1 mods are available as I believe in supporting fellow mod providers. Razo+r put a lot of effort into his version here:
