Long overdue feature, but Stats for KOREA! are finally here!

This is a simple Stats page that tracks your PvP kills, PvP losses, and A2G kills. It also displays your most-flown aircraft, and color-codes you by coalition accordingly.

 

Rank is calculated simply by Kills minus Deaths. I hope this will encourage people to fly cautiously; 10 kills are great, but if you have 12 deaths, you will have a negative score, and ranked lower than the pilot with 2 kills and 0 deaths.

 

(A2G kills are not currently factored in rank)

 

These stats reflect player action for the last few months. At the end of this month, I will reset the stats to give everybody a chance to fly their best.

 

The page is currently updated irregularly, so if you don't see your latest kill, don't worry, it's been recorded and will be tabulated by next day at latest. I will be working on increasing the refresh rate of the stats page in the coming days.

 

NOTE: The stats page uses your most-recently-added screenname.

It's simply the SLmod stats file; lots of interesting info in there, the website parses out the most relevant ones from the file. I had SLmod up and running for a long time, just took a while to get the website sorted out.

The Yak-52 has been added to the Red team, and can be used for recon. Although given its cruise speed of 143 mph, this is definitely a task for the more patient DCS pilots!

Recon missions can be performed in any plane. Search enemy territory for hidden ground units-- record their grid coordinates, elevation, and take a screenshot of the target. Then post your target info to the #recon channel for your respective coalition, on the KOREA! Discord. This will allow other players to plan & task Strike missions based on your targets.

 

BDA (Bomb Damage Assessment) photos can also be posted to these channels following a Strike.

 

NOTE: currently there is only one active "day" of the campaign, but in future, it will be important to record the mission date when you snapped the photo, as targets will appear in different locations on different days.

I fly both on F86 and on Mig15 and in statistics it is specified only the red party!

Your team color is decided by which plane you fly the most. At this time I cannot separate the stats. If you’d rather be Blue you’ll just have to rack up more hours in the Sabre. : )

 

Only PvP kills and PvP deaths are tracked, as determined by SLmod.

Multi-Squadron Coop - 2300 Zulu Saturday

 

F-86 Sabre/MiG-15bis Fagot pilots,

 

For those of you who have yet to plug into SeaQuark's Korea! 1952 multi-squadron coop missions held each Saturday at 2300 hrs, you're not only missing one of the best servers available to DCS flyers but also an excellent opportunity to immerse your team into a very realistic simulation of air combat during the Korean War.

 

Our weekly mission objectives are aligned with the historical events of the Korean War, specifically those relating to Operation Strangle, the U.N. interdiction campaign employed during the stalemate of 1952. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Strangle_(Korean_War)

 

Squadron leads alternate mission planning responsibilities weekly. With two squadrons participating currently, that's one mission plan ever other week. More squadrons involved, the planning load drops accordingly. The lead squadron picks the mission objective, while the supporting squadron(s) provide the tactical support requested. Typical lead/support combinations are Strike/SEAD or CAP/Cover. Timings, locations, payload are coordinated before and confirmed during the pre-mission brief. In-flight coordination is then maintained via SRS.

 

Each group generates it's own mission orders, flight plans if desired and even target recon photos tailored to the preferences of that squadron. The lead squadron then issues specific instructions to the support squadrons advising them of the mission objective, timings and support effects requested. At other times, the lead squadron may forego advanced planning and opt instead for a mission from BOSTON or ARCHER control and then request tactical support from the other participating flights at the end of the mission brief.

 

Your team will face a variety of tasks each week that will challenge your mastery of the aircraft you fly, be it dive bombing a ground target with an F-86 or intercepting incoming Sabres over the objective area in your MiG15. With additional squadron/flight participation, both sides can plan their objectives and use their specific tactics within the immersive environment created by SeaQuark. If you would like to see your mission plan ideas executed by five or six full Sabre flights, then get in touch with SeaQuark and he'll help you and your mates get started. Our mission packages will only get better with time as we improve our individual and multi-squadron skills.

 

We just flew our 11th mission and plans are underway for many more. Below is a sample of the orders generated by 77 Sqn (F) for our 8th mission. Each squadron has their own approach and here's an opportunity for your group of four or more fliers to get creative and enjoy multi-squadron operations.

Heads up: I have posted a poll on whether or not you guys would like to see WW2 Assets on the server. Some of you have asked me to include WW2 assets, others prefer that I don't, so I would like to gauge the numbers to help me make the right decision.

SQ, I just wanted to thank you for the server. Yesterday I joined for a few sorties and the mission blew me away. All the interactive menus, voice overs, target information, radio chatter, briefing images....It's like flying a never ending campaign, so immersive.

 

And now I have SRS working! :)

 

One thing that might make it better though: a label mod, like the one on Burning Skies. With the current state of DCS it's impossible to sot enemy planes, especially at those speed, and I'm not even using VR. So A/A combat is next to impossible, at least for me.

 

Also, the cloud base seems to be quite unrealistically high at approx 20k feet. Are you using static or dynamic weather?

I agree with the labels request.

 

As a VR flyer the lack of any visual assistance to bring DCS reasonably close to what one can see in reality is a deal breaker. There are plenty of label mods that do that. I am not holding my breath, though.

No label mod.

 

1) The label mod can be seen through your instrument panel. Spotting bogeys through your altimeter is silly. You deserve better!

 

2) Cons are fairly low in the server and easily accessible to these jets. Some players are afraid of flying in cons, because of a misunderstanding of tactical use of contrails for this period. In the real Korean War, MiGs and Sabres would both fly in the contrails specifically because they wanted to find and try to destroy each other. And when they wanted to be sneaky, they would often fly above the cons. I recommend both these tactics on the server, they work very well.

 

3) If you do want to be sneaky below cons, be sneaky below cons, but don't complain if you have trouble finding other players down there.

 

4) These are small planes flying very fast; it provides a unique challenge for maintaining sight. So if you are new to MiG vs Sabre PvP and are bad at it for a few months, that's fairly normal. Note that the Sabre is naturally easier to spot than the MiG because of its more pronounced smoke trail. If you are losing your bandit after a merge or when he goes below cons, that means you are getting too far away, or you didn't maneuver to keep sight-- keep your speed in turns, get close, and stay padlocked on him.

 

5) Fly with a wingman, in a formation with good mutual visibility, and you will never worry about spotting in a Sim ever again, DCS or otherwise, VR or 2D monitor. Worry less about distant dots, and more about covering and supporting your wingman. Any bogey lost in the distance is No Factor. Any bogey you spot on your 6 will be easy prey.

I'm a real life pilot, and I can easily spot other planes in the air from 5km, even 10 km if they are above me. In DCS it feels like 1 km when flying with proper FOV. I respect the fact that you are real life pilot but What kind of aircraft you can spot from 10km ? Try to spot from the ground an airliner at cruise altitude approx 10km from the ground, it is barely visible even tho it has contrail and nav lights on. Now make this airliner 10-15 times smaller with no lights or cons.. good luck spoting this from anything more than 2-3 km if you don't know exactly where to look. I agree dcs kind a suck and rendering far distance objects but in mig vs sabre scenario where you have easily distinguished sabres by the black smoke it is not such a pain.

 

As for the bandit coming, this is why you don't want to fly alone so you can padlock the bandit while the wingman covers you, as Seaquark mentioned.

 

Yes, sometimes you will loose sight but if this was not happening in real life the word "loose sight loose the fight" would not exist.

I recommend using zoom a lot more liberally than you describe. Picking one FOV that feels life-like isn't going to cut it, the Zoom is a tool you use to compensate for the natural difficulties of spotting on a 2D monitor, that is true for any sim. You should ideally bind it to an axis and get comfortable going from min to max and anywhere in between instantly, and you should do so frequently. Personally I have it set to my Track IR Z axis.

 

Of course, when I fly VR, I rely on zoom much less, and make it work anyhow. See above.

 

BTW, don't be afraid to padlock on the bandit. You can, will, and should lose a fair degree of SA. When you're offensive, the wingman watches your 6, you watch the bandit. Reduce risk by keeping speed high, and finishing fight quickly.

 

I am not a real pilot, and I certainly have never merged with a MiG-15 at .9 mach, but Frederick Blesse did, and he says: "One glance away is enough to make you kick yourself for 10 years." (NGNG) I feel that this is well-represented in the server at current and that the label-mod would tip the scales too far in the other direction.

What time zone is "coop missions held each Saturday at 2300 hrs" ?

I would love to join in. Usually when I log on to this server I am the only one there (PST Nights). Saturday could work though.

Saturday Multi-Squadron Coop

 

Hi Kayos,

 

We've adjusted our start time on Saturdays to 2400 hrs Zulu. Since you have a seven hour difference between Vancouver and UTC (Zulu time), your start time would be 5 PM local on Saturday afternoon.

 

We normally spawn into the server fifteen minutes early to complete our load-outs and comms checks and will then go over the mission brief before pushing off by 5:15 PM your time (or 0015 Zulu). You can check in on SRS comms CH 05 for general chat, or you're welcome to switch to CH 07 which we use as our Sqn channel. We normally fly two Sabre flights (6 to 8 planes) and fly two sorties usually in combination of CAP or Escort followed by a strike or CAS mission. You're more than welcome to introduce yourself and join into a flight or you can access the mission plans via the Virtual 401/450 Squadron forum at http://401squadron.canadaboard.net/

 

39th VFS also fly a multi-squadron event 1800 hrs Zulu to facilitate time for the Euro community so you can pick whichever time best suits your schedule. Either way you're more than welcome.

Hi

I have DCS steam edition and I coudn't find server last weekend. I have public beta version on steam. The server runs on beta version? or shoud I turn beta version off.

I recommend you and anyone else who uses Steam or the like to stay away from it. You will always be some stages trailing behind those with the release version of almost every game out there.

I had Steam for a year. Troublesome is the word to describe it.

I recorded video from flight last sundey on Korea server where I was fighting with dosens of Sabres :-)

 

 

 

 

I was damaged by Alpha. But he didn't survive ours dogfight.

Then I was dogfighting with DIB71, hoptrol,

You can see also how Gui_Santos shoting to his team mate hoptrol:-)

Then I shot down friedshrooms.

At the end od the fight o had lass than 100kg fuel.

 

It was graet fun.
