There needs to be turbulence near and in clouds. That is just a reality in flying.

Agreed. Although not every cloud introduces turbulence... it depends on the airmass and the type of cloud.

On a broader scope the whole weather system in DCS should be recreated.

My personal experience is that I was in a Piper under a not very significant cloud layer that rolled our plane even though the pilot was using full opposite aileron. We came out of it quickly enough, but it was the first time I experienced that in a small plane. We were at least 500 ft under the cloud when it happened and it was just a layer of not more than 2,000 feet think on a normal sunny day.

Reality is that you can have a turbulence even without clouds (CAT).

If you cumulus is the only cloud you familiar it doesn't mean that every cloud has a turbulence ;)

I fly on airliners every month, I'll try to pay closer attention next time...

Wind is the #1 thrill factor in flying, without any wind and gusts it's very boring indeed.

I'm betting that a truly realistic weather system would eat CPU/GPU cycles for breakfast, lunch and dinner...everything is built on compromise until computers are powerful enough to do absolutely everything nature can do...call back in 50 years...

Of course. But there are desirable midway points between the current barebones system and a full scale simulation.

Just because we can't have every raindrop simulated doesn't mean we should be left with the current model which in my opinion is a joke of a weather system.

What do people want to see that isn't already there, or planned? Some of the stuff is planned that was mentioned.

I would like to see wind gusts, I know it would be difficult but also weather pockets. At the moment it is map wide rather than having things like storm fronts rolling across the map. Also mimicking deteriorating conditions. Think of some of the weather from Iraq 2 with Sandstorms. Forcing pilots to divert to stay clear and have airfields shut down. Think in Caucasian region where it pea soup south of the mountains but clear skies North.

Not in order of relevance:

remove the current "clouds" and replace them with

Stratus clouds, Stratocumulus, Cumulus, Towering cumulus, Cumulonimbus,

Altostratus, Altocumulus and Cirrus clouds for starters.

Turbulence in Cumulus-type clouds. Icing in Low/medium altitude clouds, freezing fog, freezing rain.

Temperature inversion conditions. Jetstreams.

Cloud coverage in octals rather than decimals (Cloud coverage in aviation is reported in octals:

0, 1-2 "Few", 3-4 "Scattered", 5-6 "Broken", 7-8 "Overcast").

Low atmosphere turbulence from ground temperature changes - dependent on sun.

Clear air turbulence (CAT).

A complete revamp of the current weather interface to allow for full control of all the previous aspects.

Just to name a few.

Not if you use the dynamic weather option.

Cheers.

That's a lot of stuff you guys are mentioning.

Just put some turbulence/wind gusts here and there and it will feel like a whole new sim.

My DCS modding videos:

Modules I own so far:

The performance problem will be partially solved by introducing the way they want to run the sim in future. Server host relation even for single player instances. It will bypass the one core limitation that is there now.

As for the dynamic weather, I think the problem that they wanted to solve was synchronization between clients in multiplayer as everybody was getting different weather conditions.

Clouds... well that is in making for as long as I can remember. The problem was always big performance hit.

Do, or do not, there is no try.

Was this ever implemented?  I can't seem to locate the option and it would be a great addition.

Cloud turbulence? Huh, we're not playing War Thunder
