Since the latest update, it seems the chopper can't take a single infantry bullet without catastrophic failure.

 

 

This has made gunship-type combat pretty much impossible, from what I can tell.

 

 

The L-version weapons are awesome, hope this damage sensitivity can get dialed back.

I haven't played the L in a while but could you describe what kind of catastrophic failure happens when you get hit, and also what kind of caliber is hitting you ?

 

Also, AI in the game has very good aim, so gunship in general doesn't end too well, at least when you don't have charts for the weapons (to shoot from one or 2 kilometers away effectively).

Hi.

 

Damage model is fine and now reflects how reacts a gazelle to shots, from Viviane to fuel tank and gearbox. Most of the time IRL, a simple Ak-47 shot will result in a catastrophic failure, as seen in Mali where one pilot was killed by the only bullet which hit his aircraft.

Helicopters are fragile things and any that aren't are wearing significant armor. That being said I haven't noticed this in the Gazelle and recently took a beating from some IFV's.

That may be so, but on the other hand, DCSW AI units are usually too precise so this should be taken into account.

By making the aircraft tougher? I'd say the onus should be on ED to work on the AI and not a third party to water down their simulation.

 

Definitely, but it's been an issue for years IIRC. Though, I'm not sure if this was addressed in the meantime.

It's simply unplayable in combat as the L-version.

 

 

A single AK hit and you are done.

 

 

Maybe more realistic than before, but its unplayable due to the superhuman ground force AI, if nothing else.

So definitely a general AI thing. No Gazelle bug. A normal 7.62 round would be deadly because even the L is far away from something called gunship.

No, that would depend on where it hits.

 

 

So, for the L to be at all playable against the most light of enemies, there would need to be some damage tolerance.

But why? Even going against an infantry platoon with their machineguns would be suicidal. For that reason the Tiger was build...

Agree to Jester, maybe you show us what you mean...

I don't see a bug here... Maybe a wishlist item.

Hi,

 

You may then consider modding the AI so it isn't anymore able to snipe you with a kalashnikov from 1000 meters.

You may tune the values as you wish, we use such a file on our squad missions, it works reaaaally fine. Explanations on how to tweak it are on this thread across my posts...
