Graphic Issue, Shimmering Ground Structures

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if someone knows how to sort out either a Nvidia graphic setting or a setting within DCS2.0 that causes a shimmering effect with:

*ground structures such as a cluster of buildings in the distance,

*vertical street lighting poles,

*vertical power transmission poles,

*on the profile border line of larger buildings in Vegas.

With the street lighting poles and power transmission poles it is almost like a pulsing

effect up and down the height of these structures.

Any ideas appreciated....Gary

Here are my current Nvidia and DCS settings pix for you.

Tried turning off Deferred Shading within DCS but makes no difference.

Noticed on rear trailing edge of M2000C wing (ailerons) is similar shimmering effect

and also on linear structures such as road and white lines along road.

May just be a bug to be sorted out as DCS 2.0 evolves and improves. Gary

Try setting the AF to 16x in Nvidia panel, together with setting the Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias to 'Clamp'. It should fix most of the shimmering.

Edit: Setting the AA Transparency will also help getting rid of the 'blinking' fences.

Unfortunately, buildings, roads and structures shimmering in 2.1.1. is rampant when in-game MSAA is off.

Other methods of forcing anti-aliasing (NVidia cpl settings, injecting by ReShade etc.) reduce it to some extent, but unfortunately, some of it will always be there... Unless your PC is powerful enough to use at least 2x MSAA anyway.

i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

Thanks Art-J and Amazingme. I tried your suggestions and turning MSAA on (2x & 4x) and increasing it did reduce the shimmering but would not get rid of it; and at the expense of smooth game play (stuttering). I prefer smooth game play over shimmering so have passed on these solutions.

Shimmering is an issue with open alpha DCS2.0 anyway and may improve in future as game evolves.

Part of the solution rests with DCS crew on this one as they improve the software...

Thankyou for your help...Gary

This is also very noticeable in ver 1.5.7 (Caucasus map) for trees/forests shadows. This bug was just introduced in one of the latest patches and it's possible ED doesn't even know they messed something up yet.

I've got the same in 1.5.7.I had the set shadows to flat.. Stuttering came back also. Not really stuttering but short freezes especially when i look left-right or move the stick.
