Thaks for the answers! So.. The depolpers are just simply "lazy"?

I don't found an answer coming from the devolpers of the module saying something solid, i used the chat of the main dcs page, and has no answer, they don't know nothing about it.

Yeah, I see. If Nineline said so maybe it happens at some point, buy it wasn't planned a time ago.

S!

P.S.: the pic is not a K4, not even close. No K4 had the G6 wing bulges. And whatever it is that's a prototype test, not operationally used :smilewink:.

Hmm, mind showing me the bulges to me? Because I can't see them. The MG-131 cowling bulges are not present either.

Also, you don't have any proof that it was used, but neither do you have any proof that it wasn't used.

 No, it's more simple, not real? won't be there. That's all. Because of people insistence and given those are mentioned in the manuals they probably changed their minds, But there's a manual saying those were to be fitted, it's not a guess despite not a single evidence of it's operational use.

Exactly, you don't see them and they should be there should it be a K4. The "small" wing bulges are from a G model, early G10 the farthest.

Wing bulge is in the mark, though hard to see, but only watching the small wheel would be enough to know. It's a G because the engine vents, but prop is not correct for a K4, even late G's. And small cowl radiator doesn't match 605AS or later engines. Not a K4 even though main details can't be seen :smilewink: . Probably a G2-4 testbed.

Yeahhhh, nope, it doesn't work like that. Amazing claims requires amazing proofs, and if you would like to see something there it has to be proof of that. The burden of proof is on you, not the other way around. This is a simulator, not a what-if arcade.

A real Luftwaffe pilots wish list in 1944 would have been to NOT have underwing gunpods, they were loathed by most for the drag they caused...

Stipulating to the veracity of your comment, as a pretend sometimes sim pilot that occasionally enjoys flying a 109, I would still like to have wing gun pods and wing rockets to mess around with from time to time.

Something to consider though is that the sim doesn't always reflect the exact context in which real LW pilots were flying. These guys were outnumbered 20:1 on most flights, and in that situation you really need every ounce of power and maneuverability just to survive, but suppose you're not wildly outnumbered and even have a good number of friendly fighters in the area keeping the enemy fighter force occupied. Maybe you want to attack some bombers or strafe so ground targets. In that situation it's pretty fun to have gunpods.

It's not something I'd want to bring on every sortie, but there's a time and a place where it's a pretty nifty thing to have.

They agree but it would be better to have them as an option, as well as rocket launchers, because for example against the bombers they would be very useful.

Yes it would be great to have the gun pods for completeness, the handling difficulties would need to be modelled also.

They seem to have been universally hated by pilots. With them fitted you needed your own escort...

Thread is 3 and a half years old - ive just checked not once has this topic had a reponse from ED - not good enough!

Also, in the sales blurb,

  • Accurate Bf 109 K-4 model, squadron markings, and weapons.
  • Detailed modelling the Bf 109 K-4 instruments, weapons, engine, radios, fuel, and electrical systems.

So where are the gunpods?  Why is not even a moderator replying to WW2 threads, do we need to post in the Russian forums where things get read and responded to by the devs?

The only answer from "ED" was back then when Sithspawn said that they are planned.

There is also a second thread about it that was started back in dec 2014.

Hi all,

as far as I am aware there is no evidence at the moment of the K-4 using the gun pods, if someone has clear evidence feel free to attach it here.

thanks

And that is the problem, if we have to find evidence of it being used extensively… I guess we would not have many nice things in DCS. This remembers me about the recent issue with RAZBAM attempting to remove the AGM-65F from the Harrier, since there was no evidence of it ever being used, BUT the aircraft was a certified platform to use such weapon. Finally they decided against.

After all, this is a simulator, if the aircraft can support the weapon, why not? The K4 could theoretically mount the gunpods under the wing, also the rocket launcher tubes. Would it fly as nicely with those things hanging under the wings? Hell no, but sure we would enjoy the option.

I think all this confusion comes from the manual and the cockpit controls, remembering us of something that is missing, more options. The 109 deserves this and more, such a beauty.

We have requested it, but unless we see evidence for it on a K4 its going to be difficult to get this approved.

For what it's worth, Wikipedia (referencing p. 292 of this book: JG 26: Top Guns of the Luftwaffe: Caldwell, Donald) even mentions it here:

underwing 20 mm Mauser MG 151/20 cannon gondola pods (R IV) or 21 cm (8.3 in) Wfr.Gr. 21 rockets (as on the Gustav models) could be carried after minimal preparation; the latter two were rarely used by Bf 109 units at this stage of the war, although III./JG 26 were almost completely equipped with K-4s which were fitted with R IV:

...apparently all of the K-4s supplied to III./JG 26 were also equipped with 20 mm-guns in the hated underwing tubs. Uffz. Georg Genth's regular aircraft was a G-10, but on occasion he flew a K-4. He preferred the G-10 as a dogfighter, as the K-4's bulky armament sharply reduced its manoeuvrability.

Dont want to link some K4 Cockpit Profiles because that particular Website who have some of the K4 Cockpit Pictures doesnt like it when you share this around will respect this. But when you google BF-109 K4 Cockpit will eventually come acros pretty fast in first row of Google Pictures around a cockpit drawing in German that looks more less like the DCS K4 Cockpit.

First thing you will immediatley found out the Cockpit when you look carefully the Drawing, there not even Lamps for the MG 151 Gun Pods in the Panel.

Looks like some of the Panels have this Lights for" ready to fire" for the Gunpods someone not.

This far from every K4 can be equipped by default with Gunpods.

Next the drawing is from a pre production K4 with all sorts of Switches labeled as will be "removed on production Aircraft". Special the Wfr.Gr.21 Rockets labeled there as Nebelwerfer all Switches completely removed.

In this Video you see crashed K4 White 8 what is inspected by allied ground Troops, under the MW50 Switch there only a hole in the Panel where the MK108 WrfGr Switch should be.

Next thing Gunpods will effect the FM Roll Rate center of Gravity good luck with asking this 🙂
