Worst-case scenario is we wait till Saturday when the first batch of phone-homes are scheduled for, provided that someone remembers to unplug their phone-jack.

Would be nice to have a definitive answer now though.

All paid modules will be disabled outside the grace period, single and/or multiplayer. Is that what you were asking?

Yeah thank you Sith - that is what everyone was asking these past ten threads :)

All we needed confirmed was that Single-Player will not be possible without verification after three days.

Sorry, I been so busy answering at Hoggit and others I missed it. Realize this is the first module with this, and still WIP, I am a supporter of extending the grace period some, but ED has the final decision. So keep the constructive feedback coming.

If the 4-day period ceases, yes, we understand the phone-verification takes place upon next login. Case closed.

It works this way:

Each time you log in, you get authorization data, which is valid for the next N days, currently 3.

If you don't log in after that, authorization data expires and has to be renewed. That's it.

Thnks c0ff - as Sith confirmed, all we needed was confirmation that this applied to single as well as multiplayer and that both single and multiplayer instances will be unavailable after three days with out a valid phone-in authentication.

In that case, please do not convert my already purchased modules to the new system. I would rather deal with Starforce.

Dear all,

Many thanks for the constructive feedback on the new protection system. It’s essential for us to create the best DCS World experience possible and world class copy protection is important. We have been reading your comments and of particular note is your concern for the three day time frame within which a verification check needs to be completed. We will be carefully considering this and trying to find the best balance of a great DCS World experience for you while successfully protecting our IP. We take this very seriously and should have some feedback for you next week.

For the sake of clarity, this new system (currently only being used for the AV-8B), requires that each time you log into DCS World, the authorization for the module is extended (currently three days). It would only expire after not logging into DCS World for over three days. If you were to go on vacation for example and not be able to log into DCS World for greater than three days, then that is still okay. Upon your return, say three weeks later, you would log into DCS World and the module(s) would be re-authorized. The only complication arises if you are trying to play DCS World with no internet connection for greater than three days. This is the topic we will be re-evaluating. We hope this all makes better sense now.

Thanks,

Wags

This is NOT the basis of the contract of purchase I have with ED. Neither for the Harrier or any previous purchase I have made.

I have never agreed, in any fashion, that my purchases were subject to anything other than an internet connection for the purposes of verification of said purchase, or multiplayer access.

Now this might well be a better system for us users and ED but NOT at the expense of taking my access away to use a module in SP should I not (for any reason whatsoever) have a connection for more than x days.

With the greatest respect, I paid for the use and reserve the right to choose If i do this dependant upon an internet connection or not. My choice.

I urge ED to come up with a solution for anyone to be able to use purchased modules offline - forever.

Regards,

Gary

Why Wait?

unplug your network cable.

Change the date on your PC to 5 days from now.

reboot

launch DCS w/ network off

See what happens.

Whilst we all understand, respect and indeed agree with your opinion, we also have to understand that all rights are not absolute and certainly not in this instance. There has to be a little bit of give and take from both sides in order to reach a satisfactory solution in this instance.

As Matt stated, ED are re-evaluating the circumstances governing the 3 day period.

What we need to do as consumers is to give ED constructive feedback as it relates to the three-day period and why it is not a good idea, apart from infringing on your right to choose - as I said, rights are never absolute in cases such as these.

What circumstances are there that would arise where this 3-day period will inconvenience a user to such an extent as to qualify for a serious infringement on said user's rights of use and enjoyment of the game purchased?

Start listing such examples in an objective, constructive manner.

Only then will we all be able to aid ED in arriving at a satisfactory solution.

Yes Viper, thank you,

Please give us constructive examples of when this 3 day stance would impede your enjoyment of the sim. I am all for seeing a longer period of time, but also forever isnt reasonable either, ED has to protect their interests as well, and a healthy ED is better for us.

Rights of use is only one issue.

My main point is that I purchased the Harrier, along with all my other modules with a clear understanding of the terms of purchase regarding the need for a connection. This has now changed.

ED should honour that contract of sale.

Obviously they are free to change those terms going forward, communicate them and then customers make their choices accordingly.

I'm not here to slam ED - I get that they want to protect their investment from fraud and provide us with the best they can.

I am however against losing the ability to use my purchases should I not have something that was never an ongoing requirement to have.

I'm probably more techy than some because I actually don't have an internet connection. My access is via a tethered connection which is fine.

But what if I can't continue to do this or even choose not to?

For multiple reasons, I play DCS mostly in the weekends only.

This 3 days period will force me to turn on my computer only to do this check?

No!

Your modules won't go away ever! It is authorization data which expires after 3 days, but each time you log in you get it fresh again.

No, it will check when you log in to play, you dont have to do it every 3 days. But if you go beyond those 3 days, you will need an internet connection when you do go back to play.

I agree but also reserve the right to protect MY investments.

They are only requiring you to occasionally confirm your investment. Not trying to take it away. I agree the time could be longer, but saying forever will be abused.

I'm not looking for a debate here really.

But when I made my purchases it was on the basis that they were forever - nothing was ever said that my unlimited availability offline would expire at some point.

Changed for the better. No ongoing connection is required anymore.

ED should honour that contract of sale.

It's not actually a sale. It's more a lease of the rights to use and enjoy the software.

I am however against losing the ability to use my purchases should I not have something that was never an ongoing requirement to have...

That's the thing. The disadvantage of introducing a new requirement (phone-home) is mitigated by the new advantages introduced (no constant internet connection/Steam benefits/Gifting). Some rights are infringed, yes, but are mitigated by the advantages provided.

It's a give-and-take.

The only disadvantage I can see that would seriously infringe on a consumer's rights is the instance where a consumer plays DCS with absolutely no access to the internet.
