Help with FRAPS

Recommended Posts

My problem is low FPS while recording movie with FRAPS. I have a FRAPS full version (2.7.4).

When I start recording the movie with FRAPS, my frame rate drops between 11 and 13, regardless of the FC resolution or settings in FRAPS (screen full or half size, 30 or 20 fps).

Take a look at the attached pictures for example. The fps with FRAPS not recording the movie is around 250. When I start recording movie with FRAPS it drops down to 13. When I play an actual track file, the fps without FRAPS recording is 60 and as soon as I turn the FRAPS on, the FPS drops down to 11.

I wish I can get at least 20 fps for my movies. I wonder, what is the weak point in my system? The HD where I store FRAPS files is SATA, 10 000 rpm Raptor.

I had similar problem. Before my new graphic card NVIDIA I used ATI 9800PRO and my FPS was good 15-20. I chnged my card to NVIDIA 7800GS and my FPS droped like yours constantly to 8-10. I think it is problem with com between NVIDIA cards and FRAPS. Nobody of those helped mee.

What I did was change the Lock On resolution to 800 X 600 and now, my recording frame rates are in low twenties. Looks all right too.

Thanks,

New Fraps 2.8.2 could possibly help? If you have the full version, you should be able to just log in and download any new update @ www.fraps.com

"AA" off helps as mentioned by Glowing Amraam, although for my last movie I had all the bells and whistles turned on, but did what Ruggbutt said and lowered the playback speed. Then while editing I'd speed it up by a factor that would give me ~30 FPS based on the capture framerate (since I would render at 30 FPS in the end anyways).

You are right.

After I asked for help here, I messed with FRAPS and among other things checked for new versions. And I saw that new version was available. Just as you said, since I had a full version, I simply downloaded and installed version 2.8.2. New version did not seem to help however.

Yet again, when I changed Lock On resolution to 800 X 600, frame rate during FRAPS recording was in low twenties and AVI movies looked OK.

Thanks,
