1.5.8 and 2.2.0 to 2.5 transition Discussion

Hi,

i have a question. I didnt read the 48 pages, so i am sorry if the question has been asked.

1, Is it possible to install 2.5 on E: drive ( 1.5.8 and 2.2.0 are on D: drives) without having any troubles with the old installs?

2, Will the new 2.5 install on the E: drive take files from the D: drive to shorten load times?

Thanks for any clarification.

Why and for what reason was open beta install blocked?

I am a paying customer and want unrestricted access to all the free installs of the game i support and not a first come first served basis.

Please give back the 1.5.8 open beta install.

As a “paying customer” you are entitled to a copy of the *release version” of the product. People who bought NTTR or Normandy were granted access to 2.x as a condition of sale. No one is entitled to the open beta. ED can make it available selectively or withdraw it altogether at any time.

Look to page 7. If you move things, you must mutate things in the registry to get the exact path.

I think it depends on the branches you have installed and want to install (Open Beta, Stable Release). So if you have the 1.5 OB branch installed on D and now want to install the 2.5 OB branch on E then it might cause 1.5 OB to stop working because it updates the registry paths of the OB to the new location of the 2.5 OB. Same thing if you have the 1.5 SR branch on D and want to install 2.5 SR on E. If you are using different branches (1.5 OB on D and want to install 2.5 SR on E or vice versa) then it should not cause any problems.

Look to page 7. If you move things, you must mutate things in the registry to get the exact path.

see Coff

If I understand correctly he doesn't want to move things. He just wants to install 2.5 on a different drive than his other DCS installations are.

I've a question: i have my 1.5.8 OB in ssd drive C:, with 140gb of free space remaining.

I've also 2.2 installed in another HDD drive, with plenty free space, called D:, only to reduce download size for Nevada map.

Obviously i'd want to install 2.5 in my SSD drive C:

I don't know if this 140gb are enough for the entire installation process of 2.5 (download, extraction and installation).

If i move my 1.5.8OB to the D: drive, but making a symbolic link to drive C:, i will able to install 2.5 on SSD drive C:?

Will the installer point to the symbolic link drive?

Naturally the registry path for current 1.5.8 OB will remain on original drive c:.

With this procedure i'm able to free another 34gb (size of my current OB) on drive C:, with a total free space of 174Gb.

Could it works?

Honestly i don't know...

I think you will be fine with that 140gb of space on C:, if you are going to delete 1.5.8 OB when the process is complete.

Yes, i hope so.

Naturally once finished the installation process of 2.5 i will move 1.5.8 on the other drive. taking them installed for a short period, just the time to test new 2.5

I hope 140gb will be enough.

Here you can switch from Branch to Open Beta and Vice Versa. Problem solved! :D

If you have Open Beta, your on tomorrow. If you have Branch you must wait minimal a week for update or download 2.5 open beta on thursday. If you have all, you can do anything! :D

The Current Open Beta Version is 1.5.8.13716

Hello there...

Did you use DCS_updater.exe update @openbeta?

If that doesn't work, then try DCS_Updater.exe update 1.5.8.13716@openbeta

Spreading the meltdown. :D

You can update your Branche to open beta.

Look here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030

Do this before tomorrow, so otherwise you must wait till thursday. :D

I don't want a workaround, i want the normal installer to be available again,

this is unacceptable as we are paying customers and are being treated on a first come first served basis for crap bandwidth allocation reasons.

Very poor behaviour on behalf of ED... It's not as if 24 hours will matter anyway.

I hope 140gb will be enough.

Can't see there being a problem there. My 2.2 install is 79Gb with NTTR and Normandy plus around 10 modules and some other stuff.

Surely the new Caucusus will be around 30Gb, so I would have thought that 110-120Gb will be more than enough.

Good question as I was just wondering myself if symbolic links would work with e.g. maps; i.e. with the future stable and open beta 2.5 releases, all the maps would have two copies even though I presume they won't differ between these two installations.

Well I'm ready..moved dcs 1.5.8 to an empty drive I cloned and also moved 2.2 there as well. Had to fix my boot record after I formatted the drive I cloned from and then edited registry. Repair and update worked and now both versions are on one drive so this will make it easy for tomorrow and the upcoming week when 2.2 gets moved over.

If you've never had the open beta 1.5.8 and now you want the installer it is too late. This thread has been active a very long time. If anyone wanted the beta they could have had it by now.

You can still convert your stable 1.5 release to beta by navigating to your dcs world install folder go inside the bin folder and hold shift + right click, open powershell here window here.

Type dcs_updater.exe update @openbeta 'enter release number here'

Put the release number without the quotes. There is a thread that shows all the release and beta latest versions. I think someone posted a beta release number somewhere in this thread.

This will convert you to 1.5.8 beta without taking up additional space.

Haha yeah I almost shit my pants last night. I bought a new 1tb ssd a while ago and cloned my main drive to it. I had been using it without issues and never bothered to format the old drive that still had windows on it. My motherboard was told to boot from the new 1tb drive and it did without issues.

Then when I finally formatted the old drive my PC refused to boot. Somehow I guess macrium reflect which I used to clone must have left an old boot record entry on the old drive. Luckily I had access to command prompt while booting off of a Windows USB installer and all it took was a simple command to rebuild the windows boot entry..booted right up again.

I was almost going to cry when I saw that blue screen until a light went off in my head.

Yay glad to see the advanced flight qualification was updated for the A10. Been having issues with it currently. Actually I'm almost done with it but now I may replay it in 2.5.

Also, I wonder what that means under VR controllers. Can the occulus touch controllers now be used for something?
