Hi guys,

should 2.5 looks like that?

Mine looks the same. And much more laggy than Nevada 2.2. I even started reinstalling DCS thinking there was something wrong on my end... unfortunately there isn't...

Modules I own so far:

Black Shark 2, FC3, UH-1H, M-2000C, A-10C, MiG-21, Gazelle, Nevada map

Still downloading my update, but looking at these trees, it seems to be the result of deferred shading being off. You'll have to choose between visuals and performance I'm afraid.

Hi,

my screenshot was without HDR and Deferred Shading on, with high settings and gamma was set on 1.

I've now done the following:

Deactivated Deferred Shading

Activated HDR

Flown One Round

Deactivated HDR

Activated Deferred Shading

now it looks better

If you still have problems

remove all unofficial modifications ( if any )

run a cleanup and repair

delete your options.lua

restart DCS and redo your options

It should help

Deferred shading off looks really terrible unfortunately. The trees are too light in colour for example.

It's hardly an option to tun it off, even if it greatly improves performance.

I fully agree!

Trees look way too bright when Deferred shading is off.

And playing in VR with DS on really kills fps...

Have to agree. DCS 1.5.8 didn't look nearly as bad as 2.5 with Deferred Shading OFF. :(

So looks like Deferred Shading is a must in 2.5... And with it ON, it really does look stunning.

EDIT: Also, new explosion effects are missing when Deferred Shading is off.

Don't forget to delete your cached shaders directory as well in Saved Games/DCS/...

Sometimes with an update, you have to do that to make everything hunky dory.

Where is the shader cache in saved games? Is it the file metarshader?

Your video card is below specs... 2gigs of VRAM isnt gonna cut it.

Read the system specifications, it clearly states a GTX970 or above needed for you graphics card. Mine is a 1070 and it's just managing.

Mizzy

Can you pls make a screenshoot from your settings? I have also a 1070, but i fly in vr...

I guess the thing is yesterday I had to do a reinstall (Fresh Start) of my Windows 10. It didn't erase my DCS folders (I had 1.5.8 Release and 2.2 Open Alpha) and today I used DCS repairer to get these 2 running again without having to redownload. Then I used the command prompt updater to update the Release version to 1.5.8 Open Beta, which seemed the fastest way into 2.5, in my particular situation. The result was an image very similar to the image in the first post, even though I checked my settings and did have deferred shading enabled.

I guess, due to all the unconventional repairs/updates that I did, something went wrong and deferred shading was off even though it was marked as on. I'm doing a complete reinstall of DCS from scratch and I guess it will solve it. I hope it also helps with the performance.

It was said that performance should be on par with NTTR 2.2, which my system can handle - not stunningly, but still nothing compared with what I just experienced. FPS wasn't that low, but there was a high input lag. I guess the fresh reinstall might address that.

Plus my system isn't below specs, according to the official requirements.

The Black Sea map is much bigger than the other maps, it has way more trees, more objects, etc. Even if you can get a 770 with only 2GB of VRAM to work, it will be with the lowest settings and all the fancy stuff turned off. You need a new video card I am afraid, the rest of your system doesnt look half bad. If you had a 770 with 4GB of VRAM you might have stoof a better chance, but even then it barely out performs a 960, and most people I have seen with a 960 dont fair well with any of the 2.X stuff.

Realize as well that this map is an upgrade map, the other maps were built from the ground up with the new engine in mind, you might have issues like this when turning all the settings down, ie the map not looking as pretty.

2.5 requirements will have to be tweaked (I dont think 2.5 finalized specs are posted yet), I spoke with Wags about this tonight. Some may have luck with 4GB VRAM, if the card its on is beefy enough, but 6GB of VRAM will probably be the new minimum.
