Len62 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 For the lack of a better description I call this jumpy gamma. In the 2.5 OB, and previous 1.5 and 2.2, I experience an issue where I'll be flying and the overall terrain brightness just drops and/or increases as if the gamma setting is not stable. Occasionally the changes occur within a second or two, and other times it could be a couple of minutes. Happens on all 3 maps. Someone else had posted about this a while back. Any thoughts? If I get a chance later on today I'll try and get a short video done. Various settings in 2.5, and w/my Nvidia 1070, have not resolved the issue.
lemoen Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 I saw this too. Rift with a 1070. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lixma 06 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Try flying low over broken coastline to really see it.

Len62 Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Is the sun beeing blocked by clouds taking in count the angle of view. I'll have another look at this tomorrow but I'm pretty sure this is not the culprit.
Esac_mirmidon Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Try a mission without clouds and fly over the highest mountains out of the terrain shadows. " You must think in russian.." Len62 Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Ok, did a quick flight in the Gazelle, in NTTR, high-noon, no clouds. Stayed out in the open desert for about 15 minutes and only got the color change a couple of times. Will have to do some more testing but today is kind of busy so I'll take a look later tonight, or in the morning.
Esac_mirmidon Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Just be sure you are not entering any mountain shadow place. The thing is now the Sunlight-Shadowed transition is very abrupt. Is like ON - OFF, causing that weird effect. Also maybe is something different what you are experience. " You must think in russian.." Lixma 06 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Here's a video of it... Light from the ground is illuminating the cockpit and how bright depends on the type of terrain you're flying over (which is why a broken coastline is a good place to see it). What makes it even more noticeable is the transition between light and dark is not smooth - hence Len62's term 'jumpy gamma'. This happens regardless of 'cockpit illumination' settings.
Len62 Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 After a few more flights, using the Gazelle and Spitfire, on all three maps, it would appear that the issue has to do with the way the lighting changes while flying. Like Esac_mirmidon and Lixma 06 stated, it does have that on-off transition. I have to say though that I have not experienced the cockpit lighting issue that Lixma 06 posted about. I'll keep an eye about for the next few days to see if I'm still seeing it in areas where I would not expect it to happen, ie wide open spaces with little or no terrain features.
Lixma 06 Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 You'll see it when you transition from flying over a bright yellow corn field to a darker one.
Esac_mirmidon Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 It seems the different terrain, water reflect the light to much, and the transitions are also overdone. Same with the sun shinning down on the terrain at lower angles, the earth shines to much, is very reflective. " You must think in russian.."
