running dcs on virtual box

Recommended Posts

No problems with DX11 on a vbox virtual machine, like I said, if you enable 3D acceleration it work well... If your virtualized OS have access to a compliant GPU, then, virtualized Windows will have a working DX11, no matter of the virtualization software, only important thing is 3D acceleration.

BitMaster is true, there are not any step-to-step to do this result but it is not complicated (this part) :

- Depending of your distribution, install gnome like that : apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop

- For NoMachine (I use it to take remote control on Gnome) : https://www.nomachine.com/all-documents

And this is just a first step. Next steps are a bit more complicated, you'll have to manage network access to/from the virtual machine and that depend of many things (numbers of NICs, possibility to have a secondary IP and so on.

Ty for the info. I'm actually running windows 7 pro with virtual box and i had activated the 3d acceleration.

By the way when i run the dxdiag command on the vm like you did for your screen shot, it gives the exact same :

And in the end, as mentioned at begining i have a DCS crash with this error in the log file:

2018-03-06 00:58:29.721 ERROR DX11BACKEND: DX11Renderer::init() failed - D3D11CreateDevice() returned DXGI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED

Is it absolutely necessary to install a gnome session on virtual box or we can manage to make the trick on windows 7 pro?

Im not sure about what parameters to give to the VM to make it.

Sorry for the delayed answer... In my research I've found that the OS that run VBox need to be 3D accelerated to be able to accelerate Virtualized OS.

Other solution is to use a DX11 emulator from Windows SDK to be able to run without GPU/iGPU , the soft is called "dxcpl-directx-11-emulator.exe"

To be able to run DCS with this soft enabled you have in it to edit list and add DCS.exe, then

- Debug Layer = Application Controlled

- Mute Severity = Info

- Mute category = Application defined

- Device Settings = Feature level limit : 11_0 ; Force Warp

If you don't find the application send me a PM, I'll link it to you.

Validate then run DCS. I'm able to run it on my test machine, Windows10 on a Xeon E3120 without iGPU nor GPU and it run a bit slower than on my production server.

It was in one of the recent news letters after the very popcorn worthy threads created in the last months regarding mostly MP-related stuff;

Thank you for infos. We are finally going to have a true dedicated server. Any idea when this is coming?
