2.5 freezes and hangs up

I had no issues til 2.5 dropped. Ever since DCS seems to freeze anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes into flight. I have waited up to 30 minutes for it to recover, but it never does. The only ways to recover my PC after such a thing is to alt/tab end task, or ctrl/alt/del. My Windows is all up to date, and so is my C++. I am at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed now though. I know my system can handle DCS, and it does not matter the Module or the Map I try to use. Singleplayer or Multiplayer it is always the same. I just tried to repair DCS 2.5 OB, and made certain that all my drivers were up to date.:helpsmilie:

I can't speak for the Normandy Map as I only have the 2.5 Caucasus/ Nevada Maps. 1.5.8/ 2.2 were fine and never had this issue.

 

What does it mean invalid file? I keep trying to upload my file

Indeed, I've had this issue since the 2.0 alpha regardless of forward or deferred rendering.

 

The issue is easily reproducible by loading up 'free flight normandy' with the fw-190 then slewing/zooming the view with the mouse like a spaz.

 

The sim will start to hitch and just give up at some point within minutes or less.

 

GPU usage drops sharply.

CPU usage spikes on one thread, but continues consistent load on the other.

RAM usage continuously loads, unloads then repeats.

DCS shows the splash screen at intervals.

 

I have no crash logs to report in this case, as the sim never truly crashes.

 

I am running a 3x1L setup at 150' FOV @6048x1080 with GUI centered.

However testing the sim @1920 with surround disabled 'may' take longer to resolve the same conclusion, however this may just be a placebo effect.

Had a freeze as well followed by a DCS-Splash screen which consisted in nearly a two minute freeze.

 

When you see the log I get weired on line 703. DCS builds all input device new?

Is this what you need? I just repaired 2.5 OB right before this happened...

Interestingly After the 2.5 update flying in the Normandy map was just fine. But another problem (Windows update) where I had to reset my PC, and now 2.5 freezes when I select a free flight mission or any other mission for that matter. It freezes during loading. I've tried what the support site says, and still call no joy. Where is the dsc.log located, please? I can't seem to locate it

PS I downloaded the 2.5 beta to another drive, and still the same freeze after selecting a quick mission

I only solve this issue, when i set in options, 3 screens and fullscreen..... ! with 3 monitors and settings still in 1 screen, aways freezes.... only solve when i put 3 screens and fullscreen , in DCS options !!

Thanks so much for helping me stop the freezing, =BR= CEROL I appreciate that. in the Instant Action scenario, FC3 A-10A Close Air Support. How can you locate the enemy? The only way I have found to do it is to zoom in with the wheel button on my mouse and just use visual confirmation, as the red labels just float around and not hover above the enemy... Please and thank you in advance... :)

So am I, but that's why I do it. So I can be better at it, but this is with any enemies not just that mission. So now I have a choice to make either have the game crash every time I play within 20 minutes, or not be able to see the enemy until they are right on top of me...

Second try for today and the game freeze again as usual. Please! Do something because its impossible to play this game as it is right now. Many of us has spent a lot of money and would like to play as normal.

Hey,

 

This sounds similar to a problem I've been having recently. DCS will just freeze up completely, although it doesn't completely crash it just freezes for an undetermined amount of time (as in, I left it for a while and it didn't unfreeze so I closed DCS via task manager ;) ). I first noticed it during a campaign mission, then I tried some instant action missions and it happened there as well (it appears to happen after a shorter amount of time in the instant action missions but I haven't tested it enough times to be sure)

 

Setup:

Windows 10 64 bit

i7-8700k

16GB DDR4

GTX 970

 

DCS is installed on its very own SSD (maybe it is lonely?)

 

There is no crash log since the game does not crash, it just freezes.

Does this imply that 100% of the CPU is being used? Surely this is not the case and if it is, it should not be...right?

 

I noticed a lot of error messages in the log but that appears to be fairly common and nobody seems to be worried about it so I guess that's normal

 

 

 

Update: I flew a mission without having Google Chrome open and I made it thought the whole mission, although it had one iffy moment where it froze for a few seconds. I have had Chrome open in the past with no issues. Especially noting that Chrome is a notorious memory hog, could this be related to the memory leak issue? Of course this was only one mission so it might not be related, but I thought it was worth noting.

So i tried this link: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=203614 in an earlier post to see if it would work for me, unfortunately for me it hasn't. I can fly for 20 min before before it freezes where as before it was about 10 min. I can see when its about to freeze as the game starts to stutter before it locks up, but i can still hear the game even thought my screens go black.

 

Ive flown twice with the setup according to the link, the first time it froze, i could close the game via task manager. The second time it locked up hard my fans increased in rpm (assuming it was the vid card fans) and i had to reset the computer.

 

Im assuming those of us that are having this problem probably don't make up a large portion of the community, but i do hope its getting looked at, knowing this probably isn't an easy problem to solve.

 

Just going on the record, love the sim, thanks DCS :thumbup:

Do you use 3 monitors ??

I also have run 3 monitors in nVidia Surround for years. When I updated my beta to 2.5 I started noticing freezes and crashes as you say.. about 20-30 minutes into a flight.

 

After trying everything, I installed a fresh copy of the 2.5 beta, and those freezes and crashes went away. Now I only have the Multiplayer issue of extremely slow framerates while trying to get on to some servers. It seems to mostly be high ping servers, or servers with a high player count. Not sure..
