Change Default Skin

How can I change the default skin for an aircraft to a custom (downloaded) skin?

For example:

A server I regularly play on does not allow changing skins so we are stuck with the default, which for the UH-1 is the "Army Standard" skin (1st cav). I realize a custom skin would only show on my "client-side" computer, but that is just fine with me.

The UH-1 seems to be particularly tricky to modify skins, as you have essentially three different locations where files can/need to be edited. The "User/saved games", "Bazar/Liveries", and "Textures/UH-1.zip" folders....wish Belsimtek would clean that up a bit.

Any help is much appreciated!

Just following up here, recently was wondering this same question and got excited when I saw this thread....then saw there were no answers.

Can anyone weigh in here?

To answer the question, there are not even three locations for self-defined skins. Liveries in the SaveGame folder do not use anything with a created Liveries folder for the multiplayer. All self-created Liveries must be in the folder that is intended for the Liveries in the main directory of DCS. For the UH-1 it is Bazar / Liveries. For the F-14B or the L-39, these are located in the folders of the models in the Coremods folder. The UH-1 textures folder contains all the main textures of the UH-1. I can create a new folder for the "Army Standard" skin, which is called, for example, "Army Standard 1". Copy the description.lua from the folder "Army Standard" into the "Army Standard 1" folder. In the description.lua I also enter the name Army Standard 1 under the name. Now I would have twice the same UH-1 with the same skin. If I want to change the textures, they have to be copied in the folder "Army Standard 1". They can retain the same name as the original, but must be renamed from true to false in the description.lua. Only take the textures you want to change. There is here for a possibility with the ModelViewer2. Find the .edm file for The UH-1 and open it. There is a Button Textures on the surface. All main textures are listed. You search for the textures you need and press navigate at the end of the line to open the zip folder of the main UH-1 textures. Now you can drag the required files with drag and prop into the "Army Standard 1" folder. To create a new texture you should use the Texture template for UH-1H model. you need this only after editing in .dds format save or overwrite the forehand.

Yeah, I had the same question. I d/l and installed the A4 mod and added several A4 skins. How do you choose a particular A4 skin when flying the A4? Eventually I would like to use all of them at some point. But I have no clue as how to pick and choose a particular skin. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

First off, if you're starting a mission, you must be parked to change your skin. Simple ask the "Chief" to Re-Arm and one of the drop down menus will be all the liveries available. Pick it and hit okay. Now, it can get more complicated than that but if that doesn't work, let me know and we'll find a solution. Good luck!
