Capn kamikaze Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 I don't know what other people have been seeing WRT the performance issues, but I've found that if my system has been running for a while if I try to use DCS I get low frame rates, but if I restart my system and go into DCS it's smooth as silk. I was wondering if this is a software issue, or if anyone thinks it could be something faulty on my system. Seems weird because no other games/applications suffer from this.

Capn kamikaze Posted April 30, 2018 Author Posted April 30, 2018 Didn't help, seems only a reset sorts it.
FragBum Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Could be related to physical memory available verses what has been loaded into your paging file a restart would tend to flush your paging file. Capn kamikaze Posted April 30, 2018 Author Posted April 30, 2018 Well I have 16GB of RAM, I was thinking something is sticking around in RAM when it should have been cleared, the thing is this has only started happening since a couple of updates back.
FragBum Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 If you run Chrome or Explorer etc they tend to be memory hogs (due to content) and may be taking up physical RAM, do a check with task manager and check out what application is using what RAM. With 32GB and previous DCS I could have as much as 16GB plus physical RAM and 24GB assigned to page file in SP, rarely read from page file just Windows memory management doing it's thing. Could also be memory management not releasing RAM back to the heap after an application exits but that should show up when checking memory usage. Everything seems to work this way, not just DCS World. Welcome to Windows PCs ;) You should post your system specs in your sig to everyone can see right away if your 'in gear' or not before starting the race :) DCS (and flight sims in general) tend to have absurd system requirements compared to all other games. It's always funny when the gaming community starts running on about Crysis or CoD as being "demanding", those games were a joke to run compared to even early iterations of DCS World. NeilWillis Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 Clearing out all unwanted stuff running in the background will usually fix your problem. There are a number of apps that will clear out all unwanted software before starting to game. I use End It All, but there are plenty more out there if you search for them. No doubt someone will have a recommendation for an alternative.
BitMaster Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 30+GB Swapfile and 16GB RAM should be enough with the newest OB. I never got above 11.xGB since OB 2.5.1 is out. Tho i still have 22+GB swap. Do not limit your swap and also have it on multiple ( all ) discs that your PC has. Win10 picks the most suited one for the task at that time. Capn kamikaze Posted May 2, 2018 Author Posted May 2, 2018 Thanks for the suggestions, I'm really surprised about needing a swap file if you have 32GB though, like you say it's typically using only around the 11GB mark with the current build. Also as I said, I've only been seeing this since the last couple of updates. I'm starting to wonder if there is an actual fault somewhere in my system.
Capn kamikaze Posted May 2, 2018 Author Posted May 2, 2018 (edited) Found the issue, it is windows caching stuff in RAM, and wasn't releasing it like it should. Edited May 5, 2018 by Cap'n kamikaze
Sn8ke Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 2.5.1 w/ built in deferred shading is costing me 10-15 FPS using a 5.3ghx 8700K, 32GB ddr4, and a 1080Ti SC. Not to mention, the shadows look absolutely horrid. Although, the scenery looks quite good. Asus Prime Gaming Wifi7 // Intel 14900K @5.5GHz // 64Gb DDR5 6000MHz // 3090 RTX // 4TB Samsung NVME M.2
Capn kamikaze Posted May 5, 2018 Author Posted May 5, 2018 One thing I've found that really helps me a lot, other than just doing a reset is to use RAMmap and empty the standby list.
