New ssaa in 2.5. 2 open beta

ED new feature kills Many fps.it have some sense?.I Think that they should be working to improve the game and no to make that users need new hardware.special gpu.

This Is my point of view

SSAA will be beneficial if you are using lower resolution monitors with a decent GPU.. ex.. 1080p monitor w/980ti or above... 1440p monitor w/1070-80 or above..

SSAA wil not help you if you are running 4k.. as no GPU can effectively handle super sampling 4k at a reasonable rate at the moment..

Should it work in or is it ment for VR?

Ive tried it and it flattens the screen like the VR zoom button is held in other than that it really makes things super clear all be it a bit fishbowled.

Could this just be a bug? i would be interested in trying it out in VR.

@(504)Blade not sure... heard some others were saying it wasn't working well with VR so far..

Ha! That must be much smaller monitor, with much more powerful card :D. Out of curiosity, I turned on the 1.5 SSAA (GTX1070 and 1440p monitor here) and my framerate took a 35-40 fps hit. Errrr.... Thanks, but no thanks.

Not sure who this AA method was implemented for, as number of peole who can "afford" using it in 2.5.2 is most probably much smaller than ones who can still use a little bit of MSAA.

yeah.. it is definitely computationally expensive for the GPU... were you running with VSYNC or no?.. what kind of fps numbers did you get?

ssaa looks way too better but it kills the fps to half

SSAA at 1.5x gives me 75fps where MSAA4x gave me 48fps. Also, with 1.5x there is virtually no more shimmer even at extreme viewing distance.

So if you used MSAA4x, try SSAA 1.5x, it's faster and looks better, way better.

i am using 2x msaa and mfaa (nvidia panel) and get about 70-100 fps at my try

i got about 50-60 fps with ssaa 1.5 (didin't turned off mfaa either)

@BitMaster nice... im at 4k so its not really feasible to use SSAA.. I dropped the res last night and tested at 1440p fullscreen SMAAx1.5 and x2 and it was a cakewalk for the 1080ti... but soft on my screen.. For the most part at 4k everything looks killer with MSAAx2 or using Reshade, but some of those shimmers refuse to die... still though, looks incredible locked at 60fps and runnin about 56-75% GPU @ 50c...

I agree about the GPUs, I have a 1080Ti and in Prepar3d V4.2, I'm using 4 x's SGSS (Sparse grid supersampling) and I'm rocking a solid 60FPS with maxed out settings. DCS simply has some optimizations issues with the new 2.5 and 2.5.2

I'm seeing massive performance issues.

yeah.. no doubt it could use likely a lot of optimization... mostly i want to see a lightweight AA implementation that can rid the dam jaggies!!.. Reshade does a pretty good job for post process filter... but it would be cool if ED could pick up where that leaves off.. but im not really complainin too much.. everythin looks pretty dam sweet at 4k.

You can just activate e.g. FXAA in the Nvidia control panel. It is a 2D AA and will smooth the whole image, but quick AA means lower quality. Personally, I don't like any of these postprocess AA algorithms, but this is one of the few options in the control panel that I have found to actually work with DCS.

About SSAA, it was effectively phased out by MSAA years ago, the later being much more cost effective with similar results. But with the now more extended deferred rendering techniques, it no longer does such a good job.

..

SSAA (Super Sampling Anti-Aliasing), is not meant to be used in VR.

SSAA is the Same as Pixel Density. 1.5x = PD 1.5, 2.0x = Pixel Density 2.0

Running Pixel Density 2.0 and SSAA at 2.0x = Pixel Density 4.0

But, since SSAA is applied via super sampling image then using VPU to downsize to monitor resolution, it does not work w/ VR Devices, as it renders 2x as Large in 2x Mode, and bypasses the VPU to go directly to the VR Compositor.

SSAA

Tried the option 1.5 and 2 SSAA but it gives me more stutter then MSAA4x

I am comfortable as it runs on my system now regarding the old video card I am playing with.

Only thing is I hope that the MSAA option will stay.

This old beast is still running the sim in high settings.

I wait longer before I am finally buying a new one, just to overpriced atm due to the miners hype.noexpression.gif

My system specs:

I7 6700K CPU @ 4.4GHZ

16 GB ddr4 GSKILL FURY BLACK EDITION 2666mhz

EVGA GTX 580 3GB

Cooler master High airflow case.

750 W Corsair CX750

MOBO MSI Z170A

Windows 10 pro 64 bit.

Track IR 4 pro

Saitek X52 Flight Control System.

I have most graphic settings in high unbelievable (will show this in the next movie)

Did a lot of graphics settings in the NVidia panel and not in the DCS settings section.

I have no anti virus software installed and blocked whatever possible deep into windows settings.

My graphics test in DCS with this card you can see here:

Sorry for only the link, cant manage to put the vid inhere.

Still have to fine-tune more but do you think this can be better or will it be the max I can get out of this card?

Wonder if the card can handle the Gulf Map.....

See you in the skies my fellow Virtual Pilots.

I was doing a quick test with both AA yesterday and it looked like changes didn't take effect until I restarted DCS.

It also seemed that the screenshots with both MSAA and SSAA inside the cockpit were darker (outside screenshots were the same), but that might be due to lighnings from the storm, will try again with more consistent wx.

I usually use MSAA 2X for my 1440p monitor.

I tried SSAA 1.5X and MSAA off, but impact on fps is about 20fps less than MSAA 2X.

I'm normally using MSAA x 4. Will try x 2 and SSAA x 1.5 to see if FPS is acceptable, but I dont think it will be good enough to run smooth on multiplayer server at 3440x1440p.
