Ryzen5 2600X build

Recommended Posts

There are no kits bigger 16GB ( 2 x8GB ) in the QVL north of 3000MHz.

You can try...that's about it. Get them from a shop where you can send them back if they refuse to run properly.

I would check reviews and forum threads, but those hardly ever mention the full detail or SKU# of the kit..and even if...yours is likely from another week or month and may or may not run as intended.

The Crosshair VII is supposed to support 3200MHz memory as an "OC" mode and I've seen e.g. some bundled kits with Crosshair VII + 4x Corsair 3200 LPX memory (but they don't say precisely what modules). I really don't want to miss out on 3200MHz!

I'm kind of "stuck" on choosing a 32GB 3200 kit for Asus Crosshair VII M/B. I've seen dual channel kits with either 2 or 4 modules - why would I want a 4x 8GB dual channel kit??? Also noticed that only Gskill have an up to date memory configurator.

So anyone running 32GB 3200 on Crosshair VII (or a Strix board)?

Regards, Django.

There are 16GB modules around at 3200, actually I have had 1 myself already back in late 2016 early 2017, 2x16GB Kit 3200 Kingston HyperX iirc.

Denser modules dont clock as high as not-so-dense ones, a 16GB moduls consists of 8 Dies, each holds 16 Gbits ( 8 Bit = 1 Byte ), a 8GB modules has 8 dies that each only hold 8Gbits. The smaller ones clock higher, the result is the QVL north of 3200 and then again at 3600 and up. The fastest modules have 4GB...and better only install 2 of them...aka the next hurdle.

So one thinks...lets then take 4 ! .ehhhhhhh next pitfall at high speeds. Your IMC is a lot more stressed with 4 modules then with 2 modules. Speeds that work flawless with 2 modules may be unachievable with 4 modules. I just live through such a scenario and it sucks. My IMC obviously doesnt like 4 modules at any faster speed than 3200 at most. With 2 alone, XMP3600 is click&play. With 4 modules any booting above 3200 is click&pray.....as an example how wrong it can go.

So either one has drawbacks.

You only know if they work if you actually plug them in and try to boot them & stresstest.

That's when you have to take chances

Rank interleaving, that's why and dual channel matters little, it's the number of ranks per stick that makes all the difference.

First of all 32 GB is far enough for most games, second this kit is Cl14/1 rank within the limitations of the Ryzen 5 controller but optimized for AMD processors with low latency, above that, the controllers can't handle both a frequency higher than 3200MHz and/or more than 1 rank per stick if you have more than two.

See MSI support reply from an enquiery I made before chosing my RAM kit, I run a Ryzen 5 5600X, as they say at the bottom of the email, they don't offer warranty for the use of a RAM with higher frequency, at the end of the day, I got 6.02% increased performance from my CPU over my previous RAM kit (Crucial CL16 3200MHz 2 X 16GB).

When it comes to optimal balance between latency and frequency, you can't do better for a Ryzen 5 than this, it also use B-Die, in short everything they mention as working for a 5600X.
