[USER SETTINGS] Low FPS and Heavy Stutters

Winterz

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Im having very low fps with this bird combined with big stutters.

Usually I play with quite good settings without any problems on the others modules. It's actually not flyable for me in this state. :(

I tryed to change the settings to the default ones > Heavy > Medium then Low and the problem is still there..

My PC config:

Intel Core i7 4790

Kingston DDR3 2 x 8 Go 1600 MHz HyperX FURY BLACK CAS10

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Gaming WindForce 3X - 4 Go

Let me know if you needs more informations.

Edit: Here are my usual graphics settings:

Are you using an SSD? ALso try disabling lens flare, and turning down or off MSAA and if you use any, use in Nvidia control panel.

And last but not least, turn aircraft shadows to flat or atleast low, but probably flat for missions with lots of AI or objects.

to add to what 9L says, try running high on Water, seems to increase FPS as well.

The nVidia set MSAA and AA should be your best friend. I don't think your settings are too high, especially for 1080p, but that is just my opinion

4xMSAA from the DCS settings maybe(probably), 4xMSAA form the nVidia control, not at all. I ran 2x on my GTX560Ti.

Pretty sure that maximum preload is a RAM thing. Either way, I have it on Max with my 12GBs of RAM and 560Ti and it increased my fps and removed any stutters I had (it does increase loading times)

Let OP try some of these things out and see what happens.

One thing I cannot comment on is the trees and grass as that is something I have to run on low. But before playing with those settings I am quite certain that with the already provided tips by 9L and me he will get the needed result.

If not, last resort will be the Trees, Grass and Res of Cockpit thingy set to 512

Hi Winterz,

I have also a 970 although a different model. Try my settings and tell me if it´s better.

A

I have 2x970M SLI in my Alienware 18 and Heat Blur is a killer for me - so I turn it off. Also, 512 vs 1024 looks the same to me and I’m assuming it helps FPS. I was then able to set Shadows to Med and get decent rates.

For AA (main Fps lever) it´s either:

Option 1: DCS MSAA x 2 + Nvidia "enhance" AA for e.g. X 2 .. X 8 it doesn´t matter

Option 2: DCS MSAA off and SSAA on 1.5 with Nvidia setting application controlled (slightly more fps than option 1)

Setting AA in Nvidia control panel on override does not work.

Your settings are far, far too high for just a 970.

What would you recommend, just being curious? I run these: {see attachment}

Win 7 64 Pro · Gigabyte GA Z77-D3H (BIOS v.23b) · Intel i5 3570k · Crucial Ballistix Tactical 32GB CL8 DDR3-1600 · Corsair Force GT SSDs 120GB (Win) + 240GB (Games/Sims) on an ASUS U3S6 PCIe x4 controller card

MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G (390.65) · SB X-Fi Elite Pro (drivers dated 05 May 2010, ver 6.0.1.1375) · VIA HD onboard audio (drivers dated 04 Aug 2010, ver 6.0.1.8700)

MS FFB2 + MFG Crosswind + Precision 2 + Precision Pro (latter 2 just for sliders) + Dual Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant + HOTAS Warthog Throttle · TrackIR 4 + 5.1.3 software

Is pretty decent at 60+fps, though I get stutters that I couldn't even get rid of by completely minimizing everything (then DCS 2.5.2 looks like Flanker 2.5.1, but still uses 3.2 - 3.5 GB of VRAM on an empty mission).

Fancies like all those AA modes in nV CP are completely disabled.

But, most importantly, I don't notice any difference between the modules. F/A-18C is no worse or better than the others.

Too high.

Especially that visilility range. Way too high. It's the biggest hardware eater in DCS next to the "Default" TOS instead of "Flat".

Just some things I noticed:

-I have to try out those rain droplets... switched to on already.

-Heat blur: Max it out, definaltey no difference. The last time I had any performance impacts at all because of them, and they've been utterly severe (straight down to sub-1fps), was back on LOMAC with a GF 2 MX

-Displays: Go "every frame", no matter if it's 512 or 1024. Not doing that produces stutters. Read here on the forums and seen on my rig as well.

-Shadows: Anything low-high, no fps difference with DS. Was a good option to get some frames before DS came into the engine. Now just crank it up.

-Tree and grass: see above. Ever since DS is here, these settings make absolutely no difference in performance at all.
