A New Mission Has Arrived!!!

Operation: Arab-Israeli War

* The scenario of the mission is fictional

Important Notes:

- The mission features the Syria map.
- The mission features the A-4 mod.
- Players who don't own and don't want to download the mod can still fly the mission.
- Players who don't own the mod will see the A-4 as a "Su-27".
- It is recommended to get the mod even if you don't want to fly the A-4 to get the full immersion of fighting or flying with the A-4.
- The mod is ca. 1 GB and is easily installed.
- Nuke bombs are available in very limited numbers and only one MiG-21 is able to carry them (see objectives).

Situation:

*** The mission lasts for 4 hours, unless the objective is completed ***

Red Bases: Located in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon
Blue Bases: Located in Israel and one aircraft carrier

Four observation sites were established across the Israeli-Syrian, Israeli-Jordanian and Israeli-Lebanese borders for Arab Forces to observe any israeli military movements. These actions and their ambiguous intentions made the Israelis decide to strike the four sites, after warning the Arabs multiple times to refrain from increasing their military activities alongside the borderlines. The Arabs however, disregarded these warnings and claimed that they're only reacting to recent incidents involving the Israeli Army in the region.

With each side sensing the other's intention of going to war, it was only a matter of time until one side took the initiative to strike!

The Arab's main objective is to drop a nuke bomb on a large industrial area in Haifa, Israel. In addition, capturing the two airbases of Kiryat Shmona and Rosh Pina would establish domination for the Arabs in northern Israel, and help winning back the annexed Golan Heights.

Israel's main objective is the striking of a chemical factory by Irbid, Jordan. Furthermore, the four observation sites at the borderlines must be destroyed.

Red T-72's and Blue Merkavas are the only ground units cmdr operators can control. In addition, deployed infantries and JTAC units can also be controlled.

AAA's, Strela-9's/Chaparrals and SAM sites available.

CTLD is limited to deploying infantries (no MANPAD's)

Red Objectives:

**************************************************************
- Capture Kiryat Shmona Airbase
- Capture Rosh Pina Airbase
- Drop a nuke bomb at a vital industrial area in Haifa (see images)
**************************************************************

Two T-55 platoons were sent to capture the aforementioned airbases. One platoon to each airbase. We expect a small number of M60A3 tanks at the airbases and possible infantries deployed by enemy UH-1's.

**************************************************************

MiG's:
- Provide CAP across the borders.
- Feel free to strike enemy tanks at the TA's.

Waypoints:
1- Rosh Pina Airbase.
2- Kiryat Shmona Airbase.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MiG-21 Nuke Bomb Specialist:

This slot is blocked at mission's start. It only becomes available once an Mi-8 coming from the chemical factory delivers two nuke bombs (see Mi-8 tasking below).
Note that there is only 1 slot with 3 lives available for the task. Plan your approach carefully and drop the bomb accurately.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mi-24's:

- Provide CAS for T-55's at the two enemy airbases
- Mi-24's operating from Naqoura, Lebanon, can provide SEAD at Haifa, Israel, to make the nuke delivery easier.

Waypoints:
1- Kiryat Shmona Airbase.
2- Rosh Pina Airbase.

Expect AAA's and tanks at the TA's.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mi-8's:

- Deploy infantries to help capturing the airbases.
- Deploy JTAC units to help finding enemy ground units.

Mi-8's -> Picking up crates:
Bring up your radio menu, select F10 for CTLD and then whatever type of crates you want to pick up.

*** You can only pick up one crate at a time ***

For picking up a crate, maintain hover over it for 5 seconds while keeping an altitude of at least 7.5 meters and a maximum altitude of 15 meters.

To unpack a crate, make sure you're at least 3 km away from the FARP/airbase you started at.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mi-8 Special Op's:

Take off from the chemical factory by Irbid, Jordan, and deliver the two nuke bombs to Tha'lah Airbase, Syria.
There are three crates of two nuke bombs each just each of the chemical factory. You only need to sling load one crate and unload it within 2 km from Tha'lah Airbase, where a well trained MiG-21 pilot and his upgraded MiG-21 are waiting. He's the only pilot able to complete the task and his MiG-21 is the only MiG able of carrying a nuke bomb.

Note that there is only 1 slot with 3 lives available for the task. Fly carefully and don't lose the crate!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Combined Arms:

The 2 cmdr slots are for players controlling ground units while being on SRS with each other and other players to coordinate their attacks.
You MUST be on SRS as a cmdr operator!
You can use the JTAC slot to drive a ground unit. However, that requires you being on comms with cmdr operators to avoid confusion and/or causing problems to their attacks.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frequencies:

EWR / GCI: 124 MHz - Channel 0 for MiG-21's. Channel 2 for MiG-19's. Mi-24's R-863 - Channel 0

FARP Podkova: 127.5 MHz - Mi-24's R-863 - Channel 18
Podkova NDB: 433 kHz

ATC: 126 MHz - Channel 5 for MiG-21's and MiG-19's.

Blue Objectives:

***********************************************************************
- Destroy 2 out of 4 enemy Observation Sites (see images)
- Destroy specific buildings at the enemy's Chemical Factory in Jordan (see images)
***********************************************************************

Important Notes:

F-5's operate from Ramat David Airbase ONLY! There is one reserve slot at Megiddo Airbase, but you should always RTB to Ramat David.
All Israeli airbases have enough fuel and a few types of weapons in case you have to land at any.

A-4's operate from Ramat David Airbase and the aircraft carrier, Forrestal. One reserve slot is available at Megiddo Airbase.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
F-5's and A-4's:

- Destroy certain assets at every observation site and the enemy's factory (see images).

Waypoints:
1- Observation Site 1 - Northern borderline.
2- Observation Site 2 - Northeastern borderline.
3- Observation Site 3 (main site) - Eastern borderline.
4- Observation Site 4 - Eastern borderline.
5- Enemy factory by Irbid, Jordan.

Expect AAA's and MANPAD's at the TA's.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SA342M's:

- Provide CAS around Rosh Pina (home base) and Kiryat Shmona Airbases.

You operate from Rosh Pina Airbase only. However, one reserve slot is available at Kiryat Shmona.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UH-1's:

- Deploy infantries to help defending the airbases.
- Deploy JTAC units to help finding enemy ground units.

UH-1's -> Picking up crates:
Bring up your radio menu, select F10 for CTLD and then whatever type of crates you want to pick up.

*** You can only pick up one crate at a time ***

For picking up a crate, maintain hover over it for 5 seconds, while keeping an altitude of at least 25 feet and a maximum altitude of 50 feet.

To unpack a crate, make sure you're at least 2 miles away from the FARP/airbase you started at.

*****************************************
UH-1's Special Op's:

We have a total of 10 ammo crates at the FARP at the Netafim Military Base (home base). Sling loading these crates and unloading them at either Rosh Pina or Kiryat Shmona Airbase will rearm (activate) additional M60A3 tanks.
Each ammo crate rearms one tank at each airbase. That means you can unhook an ammo crate at one airbase to rearm one M60A3, and then sling load the same crate and unhook it at the other airbase to rearm another M60A3.

- 10 ammo crates for a total of 20 M60A3 tanks with 10 tanks at each airbase.
- Losing 1 ammo crate deprives you of rearming 2 M60A3's.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Combined Arms:

The 2 cmdr slots are for players controlling ground units while being on SRS with each other and other players to coordinate their attacks.
You MUST be on SRS as a cmdr operator!
You can use the JTAC slot to drive a ground unit. However, that requires you being on comms with cmdr operators to avoid confusion and/or causing problems to their attacks.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frequencies:

EWR / GCI (Callsign: Axeman): 251 MHz
AN/ARC Channel 1 for F-5's and A-4's

ATC: 256 MHz
AN/ARC Channel 4 for F-5's and A-4's

FARP Dallas: 252.5 MHz

Curious why the 2 slots for Huey?  We have 4 for the Mi8 and 4 for the Hind. Assuming we can cross paths with red Mi's, if one Huey is tied up trying to deliver ammo crates that leaves one Huey for other tasks including trying to chase down and run interference on Hinds and Mi8's? Assuming guns are allowed on the Huey. In addition... 2 slots for Gazelles and 8 less aircraft vs 4 slots for 24 Hinds? Just asking really, not so much complaining 😉 trying understand the logic in mission making.

@Alpenwolf,

I generally like your server and the philosophy behind it, but just as some honest feedback and at the risk at being immediately being told by people „to get over myself“ or „stop being so sensitive“ :

I‘m not too happy with the direction you are taking things with this mission. Yes, I read the „fictional“ scenario part , but still I think this a sort of unnecessary politicisation of DCS as a usually more or less neutral game where people from different parts of the world can come together.
Especially since „arab“ is a very broad overgeneralisation and with the involved plot of a nuke on Haifa it’s quite clear who is being painted as the bad guys here. This a loaded geographical area with high  running emotions and even without having any personal horse in this issue , I find it a really unfortunate and somewhat  alienating background setting.

At the very least I would‘ve recommended staying with just the usual red and blue side and leave nationalities aside.Anyway in the end it’s your train set and you can do what you want with it.

On the plus side, thanks for embracing the A-4 mod and trying to integrate it!

Kind regards,

 Snappy

I find it somewhat amusing that DCS players beg and plead for terrains, aircraft, vehicles, uniforms and weapons representing actual conflicts and then get upset when someone builds a mission using those assets and names it what the conflict is called in the real world.

So, yeah. Get over yourself. I mean that in the kindest manner possible. I really do.

The nuke is the motivator for the gameplay desired. Nothing more, nothing less.

To be expected.Just wish you had been a little bit more creative in your argument and not resorted to sweeping over-generalisation.

Not everyone playing DCS fancies replicating Middle East real life conflicts and/or attacks on civilian cities with nuclear weapons.Even ED has stated they have no interest in further WMDs, as it just something they wish not to simulated.

Anyway this is leading nowhere, it was just feedback for Alpenwolf, like I said.

You know I'm never about symmetrical balance, right? If one side attacks odds are high they'll have more toys at hand.

The 2 x Gazelles take off from Rosh Pina Airbase and are instantly amidst trouble. T-55's are only 6-9 km further east.

You were taken by surprise, didn't expect the enemy to cross the border with ground units and have only 2 x Huey's to get the job done. The enemy was preparing a sudden attack to recapture the Golan Heights, hence "more toys at hand".

Let it play and we'll see how it goes. It's not like I never change anything in the missions, is it? 😉

I thought about it to be honest. And what Dawger replied with is something I also contemplated.

Replicating real events or using the names of real places of a high historical value (or present) gives you that extra kick to get you all immersed in a mission. If you reread the content under situation you'll find that I actually did carefully state that both sides accuse each other of being the initiator, while backing up their claims with plausible reasons. Guess what! It ain't much different in real life, or anywhere at any time on planet earth. That being said, I think I didn't do bad at making things appear rather unclear on who's fault it is this time.

Now, the nuke bomb story is a tough one, right? Well, we don't see nukes so often in multiplayer missions (I did make a mission involving nuke bombs though), so how about breaking the routine, as I always say.
In all my missions civilians have never been the target. It's always some industrial areas, vital sites, radar/oil/EWR/observation/communication/water/etc. stations, ground units, warships, bombers (B-52's), FARP's, airbases, lakes, etc. War is hell, mate, and despite the emphasis on the aforementioned targets, civilians (as it is in real life) will always be part of the carnage. In most cases the main carnage, I might add. Thank God this is only a game.

I've recently checked out a game called Post Scriptum. I've only had DCS on my PC and nothing else for years. Post Scriptum appeals to me because it pushes towards realism more than other games. And if you've been flying on the Cold War 1947 - 1991 server for a while, and I know you have, you'll know that I'm all about realism which is why I keep the number of slots as small as possible in most missions.
In Post Scriptum historical battles from WWll are the missions. Actual names, actual dates and many other actual features. The point is, most games feature WWl, WWll, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, etc. wars or campaigns. Not to fail to mention movies, TV series, songs, etc. Some argue against such approach towards these events while others for it. Believe it or not, both sides provide persuasive arguments. It's up to you to look within yourself and figure out your stance or general attitude towards such issues and act upon it. For instance: I find social media rather harmful to society. Always have. Therefore, I act upon that attitude and refrain from ever getting involved. That's my belief, which is cemented by my stance of boycotting it.

Red and Blue are the standard in my missions as you surely know. It's just that extra kick I wanted for more immersion, is all.

By the way, it's not the first time I designed a mission using real names. Check here.

God bless you and happy flying!

What sweeping over generalization?

The better question is why the concern on your part for this particular scenario?

War is wholesale slaughter for no particularly good reason. It doesn't matter who the participants are, there are no "good guys".

Just guys fighting for their side, usually only because they have to, doing things that scar them for life.

Thankfully, we aren't fighting a war. We are playing a game.

Basing the game on real events, places or situations makes it more engaging for some people.

Putting pressure on the server operator to avoid offending one group or another is the REAL politicization  of the server.

DCS is an escape from all of that grinding stupidity.

Let's keep it that way and get on with the business of killing each others pixels.

* Work on a new mission has started:
- Map: Caucasus.
- Modules available: MiG-15's, F-86's and Combined Arms only.
- The mission takes place in the very early stages of the Cold War and features default WWll vehicles. Default means that you don't need the WWll Assets Pack for it.
- Air defences: AAA's only. No SAM's of whatsoever.

Note:

I don't think the MiG-15 and the F-86 modules are very popular, which is probably one of the reasons why SeaQuark's KOREA! 1952 server has lost its population long time ago. And just for the record, it was a very well designed server that I quite often enjoyed. And I refrained from including the two modules for a long time in any of my missions to avoid any population shifting.

That being said, I'll design the mission soon and we'll see how it goes. Nothing to lose, ey.

If you provide EWR (so the sides can find each other) and ground targets in close proximity to each other, I think you will find those modules are more popular than you think. You can see both in my profile image below.

And I hope you will consider providing prop aircraft for one or both sides for ground attack.

As to the prop aircraft, it did occur to me right after I posted the announcement. Red would only have the I-16 while Blue the Mustang and the Thunderbolt. I'll figure out a nice setup though, no worries. I might add B-52's as well. We'll see how it goes.

EWR's will surely be there, mate. Why wouldn't they?

It will be short distances for sure. Which then might cancel the addition of B-52's.

All that will come to me while designing the mission. Things become clearer as it starts unfolding in the mission editor.

Maybe consider getting away from the East/West split a bit when it consulted to the props. A P-47 on one side and the P-51 on the other maybe. There is also historical precedent for Luftwaffe props in early Cold War combat. B-52 is getting pretty late for ECW. MIG 19 might be necessary for intercept

Server News:

The Combined Arms module is a main asset in most missions as it should be the case, as far as I'm concerned. Things are very alive and dynamic that way, which you already know. However, we all know how over powered this tool is in the hands of a human GCI operator. And that's the downside of it. LotATC would be a great alternative while hiding all aircraft on the F10 map from the eyes of the Combined Arms players. I tried that a while ago and it was perfect for as long as it lasted. Unfortunately, LotATC seems to cause the server to crash often enough for me to disable it. No word from the developer so far and with that no fix whatsoever.

I initiated a wish to ED some months ago to add some limitations to the all seeing GCI eye in Combined Arms, but that's not likely to happen. At least not any time soon.

The alternative plan is the following:
- Hide all helicopters on the F10 map. Obviously, they would be hidden for the enemy and the friendly GCI operator.

Helicopter pilots should then use landmarks to help their GCI operator know of their approximate whereabouts. With helicopters flying at relatively low speeds, determining their position shouldn't be a problem, or so I hope.

I'll get on it as soon as possible. And while I'm at it, I'll disable cluster bombs for both sides. Cluster bombs affect the server's performance at times. It's a known issue and it is reported to ED.

Reminder:

- Operation Battle Over Sukhumi Unleashed kicks off today, 26.02.2022, around 1800 zulu (not 1900)
- Operation Search & Destroy kicks off tomorrow, 27.02.2022, around 1800 zulu (not 1900)

Server News:

- Helicopters in all Persian Gulf missions are now hidden (tomorrow's Search & Destroy included).
- All cluster bombs in all Persian Gulf missions have been removed.
- Once more I fixed the beacons in all Persian Gulf missions. I tried a different approach this time. Should work actually, but who knows if that applies to the dedicated server.
- Some warehouses in some missions were corrected.
- I'll try and implement the above in today's mission, Battle Over Sukhumi Unleashed, if time permits it.

Have you thought about maybe putting some of the newer missions in this timeslot? I personally have played all of these missions often and still enjoy them but I thought that the lower player numbers recently could be because a lot of players probably played these missions a few times before. (Phonebooth also comes to mind)

Maybe this upcoming spring we can have war games?

My idea is that every participant pays 5$, that contributes to Alps work on the server and also means that ppl will care about their virtual life!
