Full burner, I cant generate any speed. If i do the simplest maneuver during combat I end up stalling out and dumping it in the ocean.

 

Why wont my F18 pick up any speed?

Stop just pulling on the stick, learn some energy management.

 

When the F-18 gets slow you can really turn the nose quick for that quick shot, problem is this also creates a lot of drag and slows you down (Yes, even with full burner). Try keeping your speed up with less pressure on the stick, in other words conserve some energy and use it to strike at the right time....:joystick:

 

You also need to start learning some basic combat maneuvers like lag pursuit, Lead pursuit etc etc, to get you into a good position.

 

So much info on the net covering this topic, pretty much endless info. Get to know your aircraft and the enemy's aircraft, so you know your strengths and weaknesses of both.

1- The hornet does have a low t:w ratio, that's realistic,

2- You need to be gentler with the stick than other planes, as the hornet will happily go beyond 30° of aoa and stay there while bleeding a ton of energy. If you keep hearing the wind that's not a good sign. All other planes will keep you from doing that with either a limiter or an alarm (or both)

 

I've seen two specific situations that you can get locked in

- less than 200kts in descent while pulling hard on the stick, you need to push the stick to get out of it,

- more than 450kts with burners and the g limiter active, you can't pull enough Gs to bleed energy and you keep getting faster until you go vertical or throttle back

Yep, track would be good.

 

The big "very cool" thing with the modelling here are the sounds! Really listen to what she is telling you when you really push her, it really gives you lots of clues as to what torment you are forcing upon her. Hoping that's still politically correct enough for Elysian Angel...:D:smilewink:

On initial release the F-18 was a racecar on my end. Even in MIL i could do loops and pull G's all day long.

It even went past M1 fully loaded with tanks and bombs in MIL at altitude. After the update things seems more realistic, stores and G's now seem to impact airspeed more. Like night and day. Maybe OP is seeing the same thing?

Sorry, it tickles me each time I read that.

Well, that depends on what fighter you compare with. For instance T/W is higher than the Mirage 2000C. :music_whistling:

 

Empty weight (a little bit heavier) and thrust (a little bit less) are close to the MiG-29, but you can carry +40% of fuel internally.

 

I’d rather say that’s a draggy fighter. For T/W, it isn’t a F-16 it’s true, but it isn’t a Tornado either :D

 

It does need to be light on to perform well, the trap is that you can load a lot of things on it...

 

+1 for AoA management. To “unload” the jet (push 0G while full AB) to regain energy is a good trick in any fighter.

Well, I rather think that’s because Walshy got gunned down on first pas (as defender) and failed to shoot down his target as offender (in fact the hard deck at 6000ft saved him from role reversal).

Unfortunately Walshy is still gunned at the 3rd set up as offender...

Seems slow to me too: I've often got the feeling a Cessna 150 could/would kick sand in my face and walk away with the girl. An example would be when going from 85 to 100% power in level flight at 10k I find it picks up at a rate of 1 knot every couple seconds on a light/clean aircraft. I recall my grandmother accelerating faster with her walker. Maybe it's correct but doesn't feel Top Gun, more like CGOOIOW (Couldn't Get Out Of Its Own Way) Gun.

I think I see the issue flaps go all the way down, rear stabilizer goes up. Hence i just flutter down into the ocean. I put the flaps up slowly speed was generated. Thanks all.
