Will my laptop run 2.5?

Recommended Posts

My laptop runs DCS 1.5 pretty well - good graphics settings, 60FPS, etc.

However, I've heard that 2.5 is much more demanding, so I am wondering if I should stick with 1.5 and enjoy the campaigns I haven't finished, single player and so on, or upgrade to 2.5

Some stats from it:

Processor: Intel® Core i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.6GHz

Memory: 8192MB RAM

Available OS Memory: 8146MB RAM

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M

Manufacturer: NVIDIA

Chip type: GeForce GTX 980M

Display Memory: 8126 MB

Dedicated Memory: 4053 MB

Shared Memory: 4072 MB

Will that run 2.5 at reasonable settings (say medium graphics quality, 30 or so FPS)?

In case it matters, the screen res is 1920x1080, no VR or anything like that.

The CPU is on the very low side, small amount of memory will hurt somewhat too. 980M will have some hard work to do as well, but if you aim at 30-ish fps only, you might get away with it I guess...

The best thing you can do is to download the latest 2.5.2 Open Beta (as it's somewhat less memory-heavy than current release version), install it next to your 1.5 (you can have as many separate installs as you want) and do some combat flying around with one of free planes. You loose nothing except some disc space and time.

i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

Your chip is not locked at that frequency, it goes up to 3.5GHz so it is not THAT bad for a laptop.

What would concern me more is 8GB RAM, that will limit you to Single Player and small to medium missions in 2.5.x .

You gotta try and see what works and what not. Some things will definitely not work but a big part will.

I'd expect it to run well over 30 fps at that resolution and medium details. You could add another 8 GB of RAM if possible.
