Really impressive skins everyone!

I'm halfway decent with Photoshop and would like to give skinning a try. Can someone direct me to a good tutorial on how to bring one of these to life? I've already downloaded the F-18 PSD files and would like to try a simple paint scheme. Most of the tutorials I found are for the A-10 and I know the F-18 is an animal on its own.

Thank you to anyone who can provide any information, I appreciate it!

Here's what I'd like to try first:

but hey try it :)

I think I've got the errors fixed also that were pointed out....hopefully! It's been a while since I worked on it...just been so busy with family life that I've not had time to upload it. It's now MIP Map compliant. I guess that is required. So at some point I'll update ALL my skins this way including the Sabres...but for now...I'll see about uploading the fixed version. Thanks,

Cheers,

Good evening. I'm incredibly new to texturing, having done almost zero of it ever before except for some DCS A-10C learning adventures (and I tried once in ArmA a loooong time ago and gave up quickly), but I offered to make a new texture for a mate and his F/A-18C today and what was initially a bit of a joke, turned into this:

This is just a collage of war-time newspaper clippings with a few personalisations added, and I used it as a way to gauge how difficult the Hornet would be.

When I was learning on the A-10C I realised that the camouflage pattern I was using wasn't going to line up neatly between sections/texture files. Example:

I've got a video series to watch my through, but is anyone willing to share any methods they use to get around this accurately? I've so far come up empty handed but it would be nice to be able to do a proper cam livery for the Hornet, or anything else I decide to have a go at. I'm happy with what I made for myself on the A-10C (different to the above pic) so I'll leave it at that and work on the Hornet for a while I think.

Thanks.

Trial and error mainly.... I don't mind doing another live stream of livery creation again with Q and As with other artists, bit busy filming at the moment.

Awesome Hornet livery.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Like Joey said "Trial and error", but also for what you have on the A-10 above you usually have to hand draw the cam patterns, and that takes a little bit of time to line up with the other parts as well. Placing already textured cam overlays over the model doesnt work as you can see from your pictures obove. Study the templates and make a type of guide using colours and numbers that help you align your texturing. (example below)

Really texturing is all about trial and error and learning as you go. Research the threads on this and other forums and if your serious get good software, ie Photoshop etc. Learn how to use model viewers , as you have obviously and research the plane or object you want to texture.
