I just ran the updater and it updated the patcher but not the OB client itself. The resulting message was "The installed version 2.5.2.18736.400 is up to date."

As I understand it the version is 2.5.2 and this is the 18,736th build. I have no idea what the 400 part is.

I'm not sure what ED does but often times devs will break up the 18736 part too even though there are no dots...

so something like

18th version of graphics engine

7th version of map engine

3rd version of net code

6th version of something else

But maybe not... Some places do that, some don't. It could also be the 18736th build...

Back to the OP queston - they are the same. The version number in bottom right corner of the game menu (I suppose that's what got your attention) is always displayed without 3 last digits.

Firstly, you don't need to re-programme your controls, and secondly, why bother with 2 installs? Just stick with the OB. When do you use the 'release' version?

You can save your profile (Stick, Rudder, Throttle) under OpenBETA and load it back unter the Stable/Release.

Some Tournaments etc. only use the Release version...!

Just copy the C:\Users\xxx\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config folder to the C:\Users\xxx\Saved Games\DCS one. You only have to do it once unless you change your bindings etc. of course!

Exactly, why even bother with the release version if you're going to use the OB anyways when it gets updated again?

Simple Question

My current version is 2.5.2.18736 which I believe is essentially the same as 2.5.2.18736.400

Q. With this version, can I run the new HORNET (I am aware it's not fully functional)

Thank you.

Don't you find open beta way too over saturated with lighting effects in curtain glass canopies like the Mig-21 and Viggen .

Also i find stable runs alot smother and missions are broken in OB but ill check that again now with the new update.

I really want to go to one install too .

You pretty much answered your own question. Yes, both releases are exactly the same at the moment (the last three digits are just not displayed in the bottom right corner of menu screen), so whatever works on Beta, will work on Stable, including Hornet and PG map.
