[ALL MODULES][SP/CO-OP] Liberation Dynamic Campaign

Recommended Posts

ok, so been watching some you tube clips, played around with this a bit before, but since my play time is quite limited (I get one evening a week to fly)...a couple questions.

1: tasking related...given limited flight time, what happens to all the AI tasks if I finish mine and land before they RTB? What if the units have completed their mission (strike, etc) and are still mid air when I end mission? Are they just teleported back to base? Or do they start mid-air next mission?

2: Any suggestions for a first time user, with limited flight time?

thanks!

Hi everyone,

I recently changed my PC an made a clean install of DCS.

I just installed the latest version of DCS liberation (5.1.0) but I have an error when launching the mission in DCS.

Has anyone had this error before? What can I do?
AFAIK, this error does not prevent the mission from running fine.

I'm on the Steam OB version.

Thanks,

Edit: Liberation does not detect the end of the mission

Sorry mate, no idea what could be causing that error, perhaps someone else can help you.

I have another question;

Is it somehow possible to generate a rotary wing only campaign? (obviously I mean including ground units and objects, just no fixed wing)

I just tried the Golan Heights campaign, which says it's helicopter friendly, inverted it and chose the Russian side (so I could fly the Hind). But the campaign started out with me on Damascus (together with a huge bunch of fixed wing) and Marj Ruhayyil air base filled with US fixed wing only about 5nm away... Resulting in a massive furball directly after take-off on both sides 😛)

System specs:

i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU

HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM

I think it only happens with the french 1995's faction.

Hi Everyone.

I have been having a great time with my Liberation campaigns, but have one problem.

I set mission time in the slider to 45 or 60 minutes depending on how much time I have.

I usually assign all the missions myself and have noticed that in the first third of the campaign the enemy will spam SEAD and DEAD missions that arrive around/near the end of the period designated in the slider.

This means my Cap has been used up or if its in the air, is miles away in the opposite direction and never intercepts in time  and I keep losing my sam air defense. AS a strategy I have started scheduling my cap flights really late and using fighter sweeps to the front line to have a better chance that the planes are in the right place when the Sead/Dead spam arrives. I also usually try a suicide mission to hit the runways early on to give me some breathing space.

I usually play as opfor so my adversary has pretty good ARM weapons.

So my questions are

1 Does that slider make a difference to enemy tasking?

2 Are Sead Dead always scheduled after Cap and CAS  missions by the Program ? Looks that way.

Any advice greatfully received. I'm now beginning to appreciate the problems that GCI organisation / doctrine seeks to  address.

C

1: Liberation just tracks kills. The actual location of the units at the time of quitting doesn't matter.

2: As another newish user to Liberation, there's at least one lesson learned from messing about with the system: the actual mission you're tasked with is irrelevant (see 1), so there's little reason to go back and forth the two given waypoints on a BARCAP for an hour if nothing shows up. You might as well haul yourself to the front and find something to shoot at.

In Nevada, I get BARCAPs in the opposite direction of the conflict. Like hello! the fighting's over there!

Okay, there just seems to be a bug with the strike packages: The flight that's given the payload gets the JOIN-INGRESS-SPLIT-LANDING waypoints and the escort flight is the one that buzzes the target with obviously no effect. And since its task is set to CAP, this isn't remediable in the pre-planning editor.

At least the tomcats are doing this, can't confirm on any other aircraft.

Hi, I've recently updated my OS from Win 10 to 11. Yesterday  I tried to resume my Liberation campaing and got this error immediately after the mission was loaded and I sit in the cockpit (see attached file).

Any clue?

Nevermind I found: looks like the WIn11 installation process changed my game drive letter from G to W'.

Also, I had to copy MissionScripting.lua again in my DCS Installation folder.

We have a squadron of just 6 and we just finished one the Caucasus campaigns... took us about 2 months.  It was great fun, once I figured it out. 🙂  However, after all that time, after all the kills, and getting killed, it would have been nice to have a little congratulatory acknowledgement when we finally captured the last base  You know... a "ta-da" sound file, or a short message, "Nice job fellas!". This might have been mentioned before but thought I'd add my .02 worth for the next update.  Next stop... Syria!!

Id like to ask the obvious question I've been holding myself back from asking for fear of being "that guy" who doesnt understand that software development takes time.................BUUUTTTT

When can we expect the Apache to be a flyable module in Liberation?

There is something I don't understand of liberation mechanics, maybe it's just because I'm new of this mod (I'm playing my very first campaign with it): As per fist experience I decided to let the game handle the logistics and ATO: I just choose one of the scheduled mission, customize a little the payload and fly it.

Although I'm doing a good work kicking the enemy ass (very) hard, the front line is not advanced of a single feet in 9 turns.

Took me some time to understand why: comparing the ATO before and after a mission I noticed that the other missions where still there, like no allied packages attempted to flown them... which looks really strange since there is always a lot of traffic on the base taxiways. What the heck is going on? How is the game handling other flights, does it keep track of their results? Might this be related to the "Cull distant units" setting?

Another issue: I've noticed that my wingman never follows my attack orders ("engage - mission and rejoin/RTB")...

New problem, although this time I'm sure this is not a Liberation issue: in my last sortie one of the AI F-16 of the ATO stops taxiing straight in the middle of the Ramat-David air-base runway 09-27 (yep, the taxiway layout of that base is terrible). This leads to a collision with a couple of F-15 which where taking off (probably the reason why the viper stopped).

As a result, the whole ATO (including my wingman) stopped, I had to take off from another ruway and do the mission alone... 🙄

Poor ATC or something wrong in the taxiway layout?

As for the first issue, silly question: have you set the frontline stance to aggressive or breakthrough? IIRC the frontline advaces based on the result of the ground offensive, so if your ground forces are set to a defensive stance, they should not gain any terrain (always IIRC, of course... check the wiki on the Github page for that, it's pretty well done).

As for the air assets, again IIRC, they'll only influence enemy economics and resources; any mission that has not be completed before you press the "exit" button should produce no results and so will missions that are affected by culling... as a matter of fact that's why I don't use culling, even though in some maps, like Syria, the first minutes of a mission resemble a slideshow on my PC.

Don't know what to tell you about the wingmen, might be DCS AI, as always, it's been a while since I played with Liberation, but I seem to remember that they obey the Engage mission and rejoin/RTB command... (there's something else that's bothering me about AI behaviour in Liberation, but that would take another post, completely, I think unrelated).

This one should be DCS fault: I'm assuming you're running the last OB, the one updated last Thursday; well the changelog had some items regarding AI behaviour on the ground, maybe they've not been all solved, maybe they created new ones, maybe it's just that Ramat David layout makes things even more difficult for AD (artificial deficency)... that's software for you! 😉

Nice question, and the answer is: dunno!

I've double checked the menu' but did't find any setting related to the ground uints stance. I think I will RTFM then (I should altrready have done it before😉 )

EDIT: Nevermid, I found it, and it was set to defensive. I've changed it to aggressive.

Ok, I will disable culling then.

Same for me 😆

Frame rate dorps to 20-24, while on the ground but the rise to 50-60 when in flight.

I'm not an expert of the Editor, but AFAIK, it it a good pratice to create an enroute task on the target waypoint ordering to engage, this seems to make the AI more keen to obey, probably cause they know what they should try to hit.

I agree, but I think this might be caused by a problem on Ramat David taxyway data: IMHO the limits where the planes should stop are not set correctly so AI planes does that mess (I saw the problem again today). I've opened a thread in the Syria map bug sub-forum explaining the problem, maybe I can get the Ugra media Attention.

Thank you again for your hel Gianky.

IIRC, Liberation does exactly that: I happened to edit some of the missions before starting it and I took a look at the routes the packages take, they have all the necessary attributes generated by Liberation, like actions to take at the target waypoint. I guess that since you didn't RTFM you're playing Liberation missions from the "Mission" tab of the lobby in DCS, instead than from the Mission Editor as Liberation documentation suggest; you can check what I said (and that the targets have been correctly assigned by Liberation) by simply opening the liberation_nextturn.miz in the Mission Editor and take a look at the various packages waypoints. You can play the mission directly from the Mission Editor, using the "fly" option in the menu bar above the window (IIRC it's the third voice from the left).

You're welcome, se 'un ci s'aiuta tra toscani.... 😉

Are you using flight's that you set as being flown by "Player" only, or are you using Combined Arms to take control of AI flights?  If I recall correctly the flight plans are generated slightly different for flights set as AI in Liberation as opposed to those set as "player" with he AI ones were missing the required settings for the wingman attack mission commands.  It's been a while since I looked at these so I may be off though.

Hello guys.
In the same mission setup in single player campaign i have the F-10 marks while if i host the same on multi no F-10 marks are placed despite the fact that the option is ticked in mission options.
Is that normal?
Is there a way to show F-10 marks in multi?

Thanks in advance for your help.
