VR Shaders mod for better VR experience

@Taz1004

If i'm looking to cut the DCS Haze down.. which sub section/file do I need to alter?  in VR it's just too much, I can barely see things co-alt at 12 NM. I know the dot is there becasue I can see it higher or lower, but just not co-alt with the factory haze.

New Setup : 13900K, Asus ROG Strix 4090, 64GB of DDR3600C14, 4x 2TB ADATA NVME, HP Reverb G2, Virpil Alpha on WarBRD, Virpil TM3 throttle, Monolith External Amp, DT 1990 Pro Headphones & TrackIR v5

Old Setup: 12900KS @ 5.5 , EVGA FTW3 Hybrid 3090, 64GB of DDR3600C14, 4x 2TB ADATA NVME, HP Reverb G2, Virpil Alpha on WarBRD, Virpil TM3 throttle, Monolith External Amp, Philips X2HR Headphones & TrackIR v5

atmosphere.hlsl

Search for my name.  Lower the value at the end.

I wanted to give this a try, and I figure that there would be a long wait for the shaders to recompile, but how much of a wait are we talking here? I set this up and it just hangs there forever. When I check task manager it says that DCS is not responding, so I end up killing it. Should keep waiting longer?

Occasionally, it can hang up (crash) on first run but yes...let it finish.

You will have to wait for each airframe & terrain map, but it will be exponentially shorter wait time.

Normally I open up saved games\DCS\fxo folder and see the number of files there. It goes up slowly but steadily, consider this as your progress bar.

Can you clarify what to edit in the atmosphere.hlsl?

Can you clarify what to edit in the atmosphere.hlsl?

Open it with Notepad or Notepad++.  Do ctrl+F and search for Taz1004.

Last value before my name should be 0.5.  Lower it to reduce haze.  Default is 1.

I'm not currently using the shader mod and assumed that editing the default DCS one would work 😄

You CAN edit the default DCS one.  Just copy that line from this mod's atmosphere.hlsl to default DCS one.

Ah so pull the the hlsl, modify the line and repackage it into a new mod package 🙂

Completely logical when you actually think about it. I don't suppose it would be as simple to extract the albedo supersampling for the text would it?

I'd be really interested if there's a way of just isolating the Albedo SS portion of the MOD and running it separately. I'm thinking for use with OpenXR and not using any of the rest of the MOD perhaps simple canopy glass as well?

Included filelist.txt which shows you what each file does.  You may delete ones you don't use for faster loading.  You must not delete _helper.hlsl and _HMD.hlsl however.

Updated for minor change in DCS 2.7.12.

Notes

  • This version is for compatibility only.  Purpose of this version is to keep as much of Kegety's original as possible.
  • As before, this version will have big compiling time when first launched.  FXO and Metashader2 workaround still works.
  • You can basically turn this into Simplex version by deleting files and folders to match that of Simplex.
  • Some shader files had to be removed for compatibility as they are based on pre 2.7 shaders.

if I remove bloom.fx no error. Have you seen similar?

Errors are unavoidable when using mods.  Ignore them as long as they don't cause crash.

Yep, I even restricted writing to DCS.log so my system doesn't touch it and run the disk and CPU constantly to write there. There was a moment when some version of the VR shaders was causing constant logging of errors there, so it was megabytes big after each session, and since then I've blocked it and never looked at it again 🙂

How do you restrict writing to the log?  Is it in autoexec.cfg?
