Modern Air combat

I can't help myself pointing out big mistake in in MAC announcement: "14 exceptional combat aircraft from the United States, Russia..." All those red planes were made in USSR but not in Russia. USSR didn't comprise of only Russia. Please correct that!

Windows 10/ I5-4690K/ Asus Z97-A/ Asus GTX 970/ 16 Gb DDR3 1600MHz/ 1920*1080 / TrackIR 5/ Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog/ Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals

Makes sense. FC was FC because Ubisoft owned the LOMAC name. Good way to go back to the roots.

I have a few questions though:

  1. While FC3 owners get a discount, is there any upside to this if we already have the full fidelity modules and theaters?
  2. Are there any improvements to the original FC3 aircraft that will require MAC?
  3. How will the full fidelity vs MAC aircraft like the MiG-21 be handled in multiplayer? Will servers or mission builders have the option to require the full fidelity module in a slot?

I agree 100%

I'd definitely buy it if it was an improved version of FC3 but if the campaigns are just as trashy as they are in FC3 then why bother? Just for a few more planes? Fluff if you ask me.

I know I'm repeating home fry's question but what would be the difference between THIS and FC3? If it's just more planes then I'll pass, thanks. In all honesty I just want a campaign that works.

Am I the only one surprised to see the MiG-21 included in MAC? It's the only third party aircraft in the list. Will this be the Magnitude 3 MiG or a new one built by ED? Or is Magnitude 3 collaborating on MAC?

I for one would like to see if there are any differences in graphics. I mean I already have the full version in DCS World, why on earth would I turn around and buy it again....makes no sense to me...So what does this MAC have that DCS World don't....Curious

Of course the MAC version has the same flight modeling. Already all Su-27S and such are suffering from the lack of fuel when the zero G tank gets emptied...

Fri13, I think you're missing detail here.

Flightmodel != system model.

Wing stall and the like == Flight model.

Compressor stall and similar == System model.

Going upside down and running out of fuel is done by pretty much all of them as it's simple to model, and generally part of the simple system model anyway.

The Mig-21 is not sufferring from fuel starvation at 0-g when the engine shuts down after a couple of seconds, but the actual g-effects on the engine (airflow iirc). That's systems modelling, and something which there's already a special option to disable.

Hence the question, which really only ED/LN can answer, but it's also applicable to some of the other modules.

The FC + Full will all have the same flight model, but the systems models are another matter.

The A-10A for example models less under the covers than the A-10C.

Dang... am I the only one who was wanting some new planes for the new FC (now MAC)? I mean this is fine, and will serve it's purpose well for new players. But nothing new. Like others have said though, ED has the hornet to finish and a laundry list of other things to handle with DCS. F-14's coming, F-4 etc. etc. Really not an issue at all, just a little bummed out. Can't have everything!:smilewink:

I have the modules already but will likely still buy it, if just for the campaigns and missions it will bring

That is an interesting question: if I buy MAC and already own for example F-5 full fidelity, will I have the chance to play the MAC campaign / missions both with F-5 MAC and F-5 full, or just with f-5 MAC?

The A-10A for example models less under the covers than the A-10C.

I think no one can say that a-10a FC3/MAC is an advantage in combat vs a-10c full fidelity, even if a-10c is at the moment the most complex airframe off all DCS modules. If I had to choose online which version to fly to drop bombs on tanks, 10/10 times I'd choose a-10c.

It is Magnitude 3's MiG-21, and I believe ED devs are doing the conversion to MAC.

Sorry to bum you out more, but the F4 is pushed back behind the Viper, Hind and Cobra ;)

I'm definitely interested in this. I like a lot of the aircraft in DCS, but I just don't have the time to learn all of their full-fidelity cockpits.

I am curious how much of a discount we'll get by having FC3, what will be the pricing of MAC, and I wonder how ED will deal with people who already have some of the planes as full-fidelity modules (for example: a discount on MAC for each owned module?)

I don't miss that. A compressor stall is part of flight modeling. It is literally a air flow mechanics.

A electronic light system is not part of flight modeling like how to adjust taxiing light or collision lights.

Adjusting radar scope brightness is about system modeling and not flight modeling.

Hydraulics failure from overdspeeding like extending air brakes or landing gear at too high speed is as well about flight modeling.

A pitot tube icing is about flight modeling, but turning on its heater is system modeling.

A canopy releasing is about flight modeling, like ejecting canopy affects flight modeling, but it is system modeling for ejecting it.

A landing gear is about flight modeling, as is its mechanics system modeling, but emergency landing gear release is system modeling.

Like in Mig-21Bis A MAC pilot press G to extend and retract landing gear. Might have a Ctrl+G for emergency extension, but full fidelity pilot has all the landing gear positions to lock and release the leveler and air pressure control with all three positions etc.

A drogue chute is as well both, full fidelity has the release button as its cutoff button, and MAC likely has just button to release and second time to cut it off. So MAC user gets easier on that, but doesn't have the finer control of systems operations, but still has same flight modeling.

A nose cone control is about flight modeling, but question is that can a MAC pilot select automatic and manual and adjust it distance or is it just automatic?

As one can then push past 1300Kph at Sea level by adjusting cone manually, but other is limited to automatic and might suffer flame out.

Both have same flight modeling but other has fine system modeling.

So while both can have same flight modeling, other might be able to do something manually to get better that automation doesn't handle well.

Better than nothing, but I already have the MIG-21 and I am not too interested in the F-5. About the only interest I have in the L-39 is that I can probably fly that skin I made some years back for it:

Didn't expect much more though. Would love to get an FC / "MAC" F-18 or F-16, or even modern variants of the full fidelity modules. M2000-5F or -5, Su-27SM2, ect.

Depending on the price I may pick it up though.

It's great that ED are still going to do FC level aircraft. Just a quick concern: Does this mean they will fix the CBU issues with A-10A?? The aspect that the bombs fall way short of the aim point? IIRC..this issue is still persistent and hasn't been fixed yet.

They are working on that for the Hornet, I am going to ask that those fixes make their way over to other aircraft.
